ABC News: Al-Jazeera say pilot was killed in F-16 crash
The real news of this article is not about the pilot, nor the crash. The real news is that ABC News is using Al-Jazeera as a news source.

Expect reliance on Al-Jazeera to happen more often in the future since Al-Jazeera actually has the journalists out in the field, while the US media keeps cutting staff in order to increase shareholder profits.

11/27/2006 - BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Al-Jazeera reports a U-S Air Force pilot is dead after his jet crashed in Iraq's Anbar province.
The news agency showed TV footage of the wreckage. One shot showed an Air Force Air Combat Command seal.

The broadcaster said the video also contained scenes of the dead pilot that were too graphic to air.

The U-S military says the F-16 jet was supporting ground forces when it went down. Officials have released no information on why the plane crashed or what happened to the pilot.

An Iraqi witness says he saw the plane flying erratically before it nose-dived and exploded in a field. He says other U-S warplanes rushed to the crash site and circled overhead.

1. Why no ejection?
Perhaps the pilot was too injured to eject?

We do not need another "Blackhawk down" episode!

2. Per a Reuters report, he did eject but "was killed"

A U.S. F16 warplane crashed northwest of Baghdad with one pilot on board, the U.S. military said. A spokeswoman said she had no information on the fate of the pilot or the cause of the crash. Residents said they saw the pilot eject but that he was killed, and television footage filmed by a local journalist appeared to show the pilot dead near the crash site.

4. So barring an ejection accident, "enemy" got to him first?
Which is not to say ejection is a zero failure process. I'm just trying to poke to get to what happened here.

5. The early reports
had no one in Iraq claiming a hit against the US. There are still no such claims. Earlier I read an Iraqi farmer said the plane was flying funny, then crashed.
