Biden: Blame immigration woes on Mexico
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Sen. Joe Biden, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's incoming chairman, wants to get tough with Mexico, calling it an "erstwhile democracy" with a "corrupt system" responsible for illegal immigration and drug problems in the U.S.

Biden, D-Del., was in Columbia on Monday in his first postelection trip to this first-in-the-South presidential primary state as he continues to line up support for his presidential bid.

During a question-and-answer session before more than 230 Columbia Rotary Club members, Biden was asked about immigration problems.

Biden, who favors tightening the U.S.-Mexico border with fences, said immigration is driven by money in low-wage Mexico.

1. holy moly! I guess bidet really does want to be president
any dem or GOP who can get on tv repeatedly and say these things can EASILY become president:

1. universal healthcare for all americans

2. raise taxes on the rich a lot.

3. stop illegal immigration and mass legal immigration.

4. get out of Iraq.

Bidet is 1/4 of the way there.

THe problem is how do you say these 4 things and stay on TV, cuz if you say these things, they will not let you on TV much anymore.

6. Please explain "mass legal immigration".....
Who are these hordes assaulting our shores?

How do you separate desirable immigrants from the undesirable ones? (Aside from skin color--as your other posts suggest.)

who call themselves politicians learn that you have to fix your own country before you blame everything on someone else, the better. We have immigration laws. Enforce the damned things. You don't need a fence; you don't have to go fix another government. And if our laws are inadequate - fix them. If we need a quota system -make one. If you need to hire more people to expedite them, hire them. Hire people to process the applications from people who are trying to do the right thing - but end up waiting for years. While you're at it - rescind the 'special' visas for programmers, etc. that are here solely to undercut our own.

I'm sick of the whining and do-nothingness. Guy is simply trying to polish a turd so he can run for President.

<rant over>spelling adjusted. :)

3. The problem with Mexico and Central America ...
Is that too many super rich families own all except the lowliest enterprise, and pay miniscule wages to virtual slaves, who would just as soon risk life and limb to come here and make a 'living wage' ....

Mexico is an example of Oligarchy at it's best/worst ....

PAY them people, and watch them grow the whole economy, bottom up, making those oligarchical families RICHER for the long term ....

It always amazes me how short sighted the greedy are ....

They come HERE because THERE is so bad .... and the US corps want to keep it that way ....

5. Corporatists like Biden who support NAFTA
Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 08:31 AM by depakid
are the problem, both at home and abroad.

His ignorance must be embarrassing to the people of Delaware- as it surely is to the the Democratic party almost every Sunday on the talk shows. Hard to believe that this plagiarist is still a senator- much less that he thinks he has a chance at the presidency.

10. At least he mentioned punishing U.S. employers who hire
undocumented workers. They're the ones that are causing the problem, some of them even advertise in Mexico and Central America for workers. If there were no jobs here, people wouldn't risk coming over the border.
