Al-Qaeda controls western Iraq: US intelligence report
US forces can neither crush the insurgency in western Iraq nor counter the rising popularity of the Al-Qaeda terrorist network in the area, media reported, citing a secret Marine Corps intelligence report. The five-page report, written in August, focuses on the largely Sunni Iraqi province of Al-Anbar, according to the Washington Post.

The secret report was written by Marine Colonel Peter Devlin, a senior military intelligence officer with the Marine Expeditionary Force in the region. According to the Post, it did not appear to have been shared with Iraq's military.

Iraq's Sunni population is "embroiled in a daily fight for survival," fears "pogroms" by the Shiite majority, and is increasingly dependent on Al-Qaeda in Iraq as its only hope against growing Iranian dominance in Baghdad, the report reads.

Barring an additional 15,000 to 20,000 US troops deployed to the region in addition to billions of dollars in aid, "there is nothing" US troops "can do to influence" the insurgency, the report reads.

The administation is and so are people who believe that al-Qaeda is not in control of Western Iraq.

Listen to Micheal Ware who has embeded himself with al-Qaeda in Iraq if you don't know who to believe.

6. No, the Iraqi insurgents are in control of western Iraq, apparently
Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 12:29 PM by Ms. Clio
How on earth do you think 3,000, at the most, "foreign fighters" are controlling the entire province of al-Anbar?

On edit: This is the province of Fallujah. Haditha. Ramadi. This is where the U.S. has been trying to crush the insurgency for years.

al-Qaeda in Iraq (which Zarqawi created and was the biggest most powerful insurgent group even in 2003) is 90-95% Iraqi.

It only has the name al-Qaeda because Zarqawi made a October 2004 deal with Bin Laden.

10. you haven't been paying attention, have you?
The Iraqi insurgency is an indigenous resistance movement against an occupation force. Calling it "al-Qaida" is a cheap tactic to label the insurgents as "terrorists." It's bullshit.

7. So Al-Qaeda basically has its own Mideast state now? Dubya sure delivers, doesn't he?
Everything bin Laden wanted, he's gotten. Bush, Cheney, Rummy, the entire cabal of neocons, with their sick and dangerous combination of ignorance and arrogance... they've been punk'd by bin Laden AT EVERY STEP OF THE GAME.

What's the emoticon for "hang these treasonous bastards," anyway? Seriously, there are people in this administration who need to be brought up on charges for the grave harm they've done to our country. That's a fact. The investigations must go forward, and let the evidence lead where it will.

:grr:

13. How does one identify an Al-Qaeda member? How do they know
if the person isn't just an Iraqi who wants us out of their country?
