The Associated Press

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Democratic challenger to first-term House Republican Jean Schmidt conceded on Tuesday as the final county in the southern Ohio district prepared to conclude its final count.

Victoria Wulsin scheduled a noon news conference to announce that she was conceding. The Associated Press declared Schmidt the winner Nov. 21 after the first provisional ballot tallies were reported in the 2nd District, but Wulsin said then she wanted to make sure all ballots were counted before conceding.

After Hamilton County, Wulsin's home county, reported unofficial results Monday night, she was still nearly 2,500 votes behind Schmidt with only Schmidt's home county of Clermont County left to report its results.

In another Ohio race, Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy refuses to concede a 15th District race headed to a recount. Republican Rep. Deborah Pryce led Kilroy by 1,055 votes in unofficial results Monday after counties in central Ohio's 15th District counted absentee and provisional ballots...

4. How Could Newt Gingrich Win Election After Election?
How could Katherine Harris win even ONE election to a House seat?

It's the district. The people there seem to like ol' bitty Schmitty. Or at least they just hate Democrats enough to keep her in there. It's the nature of the beast known as Gerry Mandering, unfortunately...

7. the district is gerrymandered
the rural areas go dem but are offset by having the cinci suburbs, which are very GOP lumped inwith them. people in portsmouth complain about it all of the time-the congression rep. usually doesn't reflect the values of the eastern half of the district

oh well, we'll get her next time

5. It's even worse -
congress.org gives her a 'power' rating of 243 out of 436....so they have just returned a rep w/ no power in a rethug held house to a rethug w/ even less power in a Democratic house.

6. People in very red districts would vote for Hitler if he had an 'R' after his name
It's tough in most cases for Democrats in highly Republican districts to win those seats. You can thank gerrymandering in many cases for that. Look at Michelle Bachman in Minnesota.

Seems people there just look for the 'R' on the ballot, or just check the 'straight ticket' option.

I think it actually says alot that Schmidt came so close to losing there.
