Hagel visits to test presidential waters

BY JAKE THOMPSON

WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

WASHINGTON - Sen. Chuck Hagel, a possible 2008 White House contender, will visit one key campaign state next month and possibly another in January.

The Nebraska Republican is scheduled to visit Ohio as featured speaker at the Cuyahoga County Republicans' holiday party Dec. 15.

Ohio's presidential primary often plays an important early role in deciding party nominees.

Sen. Chuck Hagel

Hagel also has tentatively penciled in a late January trip to Iowa - a year ahead of the state's presidential caucuses that kick off the battle for the White House every four years.

2. maybe he won't need to. He's the GOP'er I worry about and it's nothing to do
with electronic voting.

4. me too
Hopefully the GOP is too stupid to nominate him, but he would be a powerful opponent.
( I think the voting machine business is bunk in his case )

7. Same Here. He Has Picked Up The 'Straight Talk' Mantle McCave Dropped
Have no doubt, though, he is the Reich. Just a package that will provide cover for voters wavering on voting Reich in '08.

3. Actually I don't think he has the chances of a snowflake in hell. The Bush loyalists
will torpedo him in Iowa and the South. Iowa is a hotbed of RW Christicans.

5. He's the most decent Republican in the Senate.
He's everything John McCain pretends to be.

It will be interesting watching McCain deal with Hagel in the debates. I think that Hagel will do well. Don't be surprised.

Of course, the Wingnuts hate him because of his criticisms of Bush's war.

6. Absolutely
We shall see, though. If the Bushies and reactionaries get their tailfeathers singed enough in the next couple of years, they may run to a caretaker kind of guy. Still, they seem impervious to reality...
