County wants Wal-Mart to get state aid
By DeShayla Bryant-Palatka Daily News

PALATKA — Putnam County commissioners voted Tuesday to ask Florida to designate the proposed Wal-Mart distribution center in South Putnam as a qualified target industry — a designation that would qualify Wal-Mart for state economic development incentives.

“This is to get us in line and notifies the state … (Wal-Mart) … may be coming to them for money,” said Commission Chairman Brad Purcell. Wal-Mart continues to face the land use and zoning approval process, he said.

The county’s resolution was recommended by Wes Larson, president of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. The amount of state incentives would be based on the number of jobs Wal-Mart creates...

Woodward said, if approved, Wal-Mart could gain $3 million in state tax rebates... http://palatkadailynews.com/articles/2006/11/29/news/news03.txt

9. David vs Goliath
They are putting this dist. center out in the middle of nowhere. The few and far between locals have nothing with which to fight....the locale bumps up against our county and there are concerns here of the heavy truck traffic

Companies that are run much more ethically and that will have a *positive* effect on that community.

Especially with a $3 million dollar subsidy.
