Iraqi Red Crescent cites U-S forces as `main problem'
GENEVA A top official of the Iraqi affiliate of the International Red Cross says his workers are facing a greater threat from U-S forces than they are from insurgent attacks.

Doctor Jamal Al-Karbouli is vice president of the Iraqi Red Crescent society. He says some members of the U-S force don't realize his group is part of the international aid movement and is entitled to rights under the Geneva Conventions. Al-Karbouli says there's apparently confusion over the Muslim crescent moon symbol it uses.

He says Red Crescent offices in Baghdad, Anbar and Najaf provinces have been repeatedly attacked by U-S-led forces searching for insurgents. He says the Americans attacked a Red Crescent office in Fallujah, detaining the workers and burning their car and the building.

What are they? Has ANYone in the military been prosecuted for violations of the Geneva Conventions? I think even the underlings in the Abu Ghraib affair were prosecuted for violating US military law.

3. Iraqi Red Crescent claims US military harassment
The Iraqi Red Crescent has accused United States forces of disrupting its relief work by harassing its workers and attacking its offices and vehicles.

The group is the only aid organisation working all over Iraq, with 1,000 staff and 200,000 volunteers.

But today in Geneva its vice president, Dr Jamal Al-Karbouli, claimed relief work was being disrupted by US forces, who he said regularly harassed Red Crescent workers and even attacked clearly marked buildings and vehicles.

Dr Karbouli said the Red Crescent had protested several times to the US military about the harassment.
