Metro Shuts Down Orange and Blue Lines

By Fred Barbash
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, December 12, 2003; 9:51 AM

Metrorail service on the Orange and Blue lines was seriously disrupted this morning because of a police investigation near the tracks in northeast Washington near Benning road.

.......after a man phoned police to report that he had placed an explosive device somewhere on the tracks in the area of the Stadium-Armory station, Metro spokesman Ray Feldmann said.

Police reported receiving threatening calls regarding a package in a lot at Benning Road and 34th St. NE. An FBI spokeswoman reported that the package was blown open and was being examined.

Later, D.C. Police spokesman Sgt. Joe Gentile said a second suspicious object was found in the 500 block of Oklahoma Ave. NE, in what appeared to be a briefcase. He said it would be taken to the RFK Stadium parking lot to be "disrupted."

---------------------------------------------

heard on DC radio:

a package was left, and a phone call made by a man who wanted to blow up the Metro trains, because shrub was imprisoning his father...with the closure of these major routes through the city, the entire Metro system is a real disaster today....

8. try tapping the link 'lightly'...and just ONE time.....

I posted just about everything from the article on my first post....the rest is just info for those living in DC about the trains disrupted, and alternate transportation...and what a mess the Metro system is...with delays everywhere...people waiting, waiting, waiting...Metro is trying to provide buses, but it's slow, and people are being searched, which is usually NOT done in the Metro system, so everything is slow, slow, slow....

13. eh, the people I've talked to who had the flu shot
have gotten sicker than those who haven't. Bombs on metro trains, police everywhere...national security at its lamest.

12. I'm not sure I understand
Bomb threates have always been a royal pain in the ass. Its a royal pain in the ass whenever some mental case destroys the DC commute (remember the lunatic on the Wilson bridge?), but these things happen.

11. What a freaking mess!!
Pretty easy to have terrorists attacks anywhere. Yet, we had to go to Bagdad to prevent them. Something doesn't make sense here.
