Thomson Corp to set up 2nd service centre in Hyderabad
Mon Jan 8, 2007 6:45 PM IST

HYDERABAD (Reuters) - Electronic publisher Thomson Corp said on Monday it is setting up a service centre in Hyderabad that would employ 1,000 people by 2009, its second such centre in the country.

"We plan to exploit the large base of knowledge workers available in India," said Pradeep Lankapalli, Thomson's vice president of shared services.

The Hyderabad centre would initially focus on financial and transaction processes as well as enterprise systems.

Thomson's existing centre in Bangalore employs 2,200 people. The company provides information services to businesses across areas such as scientific research, finance, law, tax, accounting and healthcare.

1. I would love to know if...
or how, employment by global corporations factors into the U.S. job growth numbers.

2. The key word being "exploit" . . .

3. Well for once there's no guarantee of U.S. job losses with this offshoring.
Although Thomson has many employees in the U.S. it's a Canadian corporation with dozens of subsidiaries.
