30 killed in cargo plane crash in Iraq
<snip>

"A cargo plane carrying Turkish workers crashed during landing at an airport near Baghdad, killing 30 people and injuring two, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.

Initial reports indicated the plane crashed due to bad weather and heavy fog in Baghdad, a Foreign Ministry official said on condition of anonymity because an official announcement had not yet been authorized."

1. I saw some live shots earlier today with a CNN guy Ryan Chilcote(sp)
didn't look all that foggy from where he was, but there was smoke in the air due to the current operations going on in the Haifa area.

Iraq official says plane from Turkey not shot down

Source: Reuters

BAGHDAD, Jan 10 (Reuters) - A plane crash that killed 31 people flying from Turkey
to Iraq on Tuesday is believed to be the result of a "technical failure", an Iraqi
transport ministry official said on Wednesday.

Officials have made no suggestion of hostile fire, although an Iraqi rebel group
claimed it had shot the plane down.

"It was not shot down," Transport Ministry media director Ahmed Abdul Wahab told
Reuters. "It is believed to have been a technical failure but the investigation is
continuing," he said.

He added that it crashed near a U.S. base so U.S. authorities were handling the
matter and he had no more details.

5. they've claimed nearly every single aircraft that has gone down
was due to weather, mechanical failure, pilot error, everything BUT attack. i bet some statistical research would make those claims look downright amusing.
