Sparring senators threaten Iraq fund cut, filibuster
Sparring senators threaten Iraq fund cut, filibuster

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold on Thursday urged Congress to cut funding for the Iraq war, while the Senate Republican leader threatened to filibuster any Democratic resolution opposing increased troop levels.

"Now Congress must use its main power -- the power of the purse -- to put an end to our involvement in this disastrous war and I am not talking here only about the surge or escalation," said Feingold of Wisconsin at a Senate hearing. "It is time to use the power of the purse to bring our troops out of Iraq."

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, said Thursday that Republicans might filibuster the Democratic-sponsored resolution opposing the strategy.

McConnell refused to predict if he could muster the votes to carry out a filibuster.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid struck back at McConnell by predicting Democrats would have enough votes to block such a move. "Yes we do," Reid told reporters. "By my last count 12 Republicans publicly announced they don't support the surge."

3. Damn, and here I thought
the repukes hated the filibuster so much they wanted to vote it out of the chamber. What ever happened to the moranic refrains of " The President deserves and up or down vote".

McConnell is a putz and I love to see how uncomfortable he looks on the proper side of a majority. I hope he's enjoying his new basement meeting rooms of did the Dems give the pukes better space than they had in the past?

5. mitch mcconnell is a tapeworm.
a parasite of the very lowest order.

may the republicks with the courage to stand against bush CONTINUE to stand against him as far as this war is concerned -- i don't ask that they suddenly become enlightened creatures -- just stop the waste of lives and dollars in iraq.

say no to the escalation and no to picking a new war with iran.

7. Republican filibuster? Oh yah. Let's see that bipartisanship put
to the test guys.

I for one would love to see 12 Republicans make real enemies within their caucus.

9. McConnell once claimed they had the votes to defeat a threatened Dem filibuster
Guess that Sonofamitch doesn't want to go on record predicting he has the votes again.

Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice...a fool....you can't get fooled again.
