Lieberman applauds president's plan for Iraq
Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 07:06 AM by damkira
HARTFORD, Conn. -- Sen. Joe Lieberman, who was assailed for his pro-war views during his fall re-election race, praised President Bush's plan to increase the number of troops in Iraq and urged his colleagues in Congress to proceed with respectful debate.

"Excessive partisan division and rancor at home only weakens our will to prevail in this war," Lieberman, I-Conn., said in a statement Wednesday.

In a speech Wednesday, Bush acknowledged for the first time he erred by failing to order a military buildup in Iraq last year and said he was increasing U.S. troops by 21,500 to quell the country's near-anarchy. The buildup runs counter to widespread anti-war passions among Americans and the advice of some top generals.

"The president did not take the easy path, but he took the correct and courageous course," Lieberman said. "It is a dangerous illusion to believe that we can depart Iraq and the inevitable killing fields and terrorist violence will not follow us in retreat - even to our own shores."

5. If you still speak to any wingnuts, ALWAYS remind them that Joe and McCain are joined at the hip!
I have a strong feeling that McCain will be the repukes' frontrunner for 2008. He's almost the only one left standing. The rest are all being discredited for their deeds these past 12+ years--and/or they are being slimed by McCain's goon squads, like Romney. (Who do we really think is the source of this constant drumbeat of stories about Romney??)

But tell a wingnut that McCain is blood brothers with AL GORE'S OLD RUNNING MATE FROM 2000, and you can see their little wingnut face fall. It's great.

McCain, IMO, is even a worse warmonger than the Chimperor! And it's hard to be worse than the Chimperor at anything!

12. "even to our shores"

That's a very interesting claim by chucklenuts and his senate side-kicks.

I think that for the insurgents bent on revenge killings of Shia or Sunni, they are very unlikely to bring it here to the US. As for the Al-kady types in Iraq, well, they will "bring it here" whether or not we "win" in Iraq. Whenever that war is over, they will move on to the next front, wherever that might be. If we withdrew from Iraq today, they would all go to somalia tomorrow. And fight us and the Ethiopians there. Or wherever.

Bring it to "our shores"... not likely.

Bring it to Israel... that's a lot more probable.

And that's why Joementum is all for escalating the hell out of this war, and even starting the next.

18. Is there a recent poll of many idiots in Conn, that still approve of this asswipe?
It would be interesting to see how really stupid the majority of Conn, voters are or how delusional they remain in supporting this kind of irresponsible behavior on the part of their recently re-elected clown senator.

34. This is FALSE!
"
In a speech Wednesday, Bush acknowledged for the first time he erred by failing to order a military buildup in Iraq last year and said he was increasing U.S. troops by 21,500 to quell the country's near-anarchy. "

I heard the speech, and I read the transcript as well. * said, "Mistakes have been made", but never once did he take any PERSONAL responsibility. But this is how the MSN has been framing the speech, and apparently, Lieberbush wants to call this a "correct and courageous course." Whatever, Joe.

38. Lieberman is "Israel's best friend in the Senate"
that's an actual quote from an AIPAC spokesman when his organization sounded the alarm right after Lieberman lost the Democratic primary.

I will point out that in the general election Lieberman only got 30% of the Democratic vote.

The pernicious influence of the Israel Lobby in America is a legitimate political issue that will come to the fore after Bush's wars in Iraq, Iran, and Syria end in defeat. People will be held accountable for their roles in enabling Bush's war crimes.
