U.S. army releases Iranian detained in Arbil

Baghdad, Jan 12, (VOI) – The U.S. army said in a statement on Friday that it released one of the six Iranian consulate staff it had detained earlier on Thursday during a raid in Arbil on suspicion of being closely tied to activities targeting Iraqi and coalition forces.

The raid comes within "efforts by coalition forces against persons suspected involvement in operations targeting Iraqi citizens and Iraqi and coalition forces," the U.S. army said a statement received by the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

"The Coalition will continue to work with the Government of Iraq to prevent interference by hostile actors in Iraq's internal security affairs," the statement added.

...

Multi-National forces spokesman General William Caldwell said the coalition forces got photos and documents proving that the detained diplomats were involved in violence activities in Iraq.

1. Photos and documents
Now if they are actually authenticated or even produced there is the justification for the unwarranted attack in the first place. In fact though, coming up with these documents in the slow time capsule release format, has nearly obliterated their importance as a justifying or placating tool.

OK you forced us to justify ourselves. Here's a tidbit and shut up. Now what has to be in those documents to make you people just leave us alone?, he says, pen in hand.

2. "The Coalition will continue to work ...
with the Government of Iraq to prevent interference by hostile actors in Iraq's internal security affairs."

Hostile actors in Iraq's internal security affairs?

A perfect description of Iraq's great "liberator," BushAmerica.

3. Iraq is saying they had permission
I guess it's more 'fog of war'. AP piece posted about 15 minutes ago says they were "in the process" of becoming an embassy. Kurds's are pissed they weren't told, too. Says they "don't Iraq to be a battleground for settling scores with other countries". Also, they think Bush's new strategy will fail (ahem! Bushetals said it was Maliki's plan).

8. Yep, they captured some Iranians earlier
and one of them had "the wiring diagram" for the insurgency in Iraq. Supposedly, this vital information was rushed to bush before he made his speech. Now what are the chances? If you were running a resistance for Iran in Iraq, would you be carrying around "a wiring diagram" of the whole, terrist plot?

10. Arbil is in Iraqi Kurdistan, how were they formenting violence from there?
Seriously, we storm into Iranian territory and don't tell the Kurds, whom are de facto independent and dependent upon the West for stability and have been steadfast allies of the US -- I don't get it.
