U.S. says to "go after" Iran, Syria networks in Iraq

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The United States plans to "go after" what it said were networks
of Iranian and Syrian agents in Iraq, U.S. ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad said on Monday.

"We're going after their networks in Iraq," he told a news conference, as he laid out
the new U.S. and Iraqi strategy to end sectarian violence at what Khalilzad called
a "defining moment" for Iraq.

U.S. forces are holding five Iranians following a raid on an Iranian government office
in Arbil last week -- the second such operation in recent weeks.

7. I'd been thinking...
that this might be part of Chimpy's exit strategy. He knows that eventually the Democratic Congress is going to cut off his funding, probably with the help of some scared Republicans that don't want Iraq on any front burner in the 2008 elections. So---piss off Iran (without actually invading it), which then puts pressure on the Shia-led Iraqi government to ask the Americans to leave.

* gets exit with honor, without having the embarassment of having the Democrats defunding his war. Frankly, it works for our side, too, I don't think enough of the Democrats are really ready to pull the financial plug on this debacle for at least six months.

4. They will keep doing this, and they will eventually plunge us headlong
Into war with both countries, unless we stop them.

It's that simple.

If Congress will not, it may fall to us.

6. it may definitely fall to us, I only wish Americans were as
determined to take back their country the way other people in other countries take back their countries away from dangerous dictatorships. History does repeat itself.

5. Statements about the Iraqi government
not "stepping up to the plate" should be seen for BS they are. In reality Iraq is * private little oil fiefdom, any Iraqi leader that doesn't bow to his orders is swiftly removed from office, under the guise of being ineffectual or unwilling to take responsibility.
