'Total Bull' That Congress Can't Stop Bush Iraq Escalation, Says Edwards Campaign
'Total Bull' That Congress Can't Stop Bush Iraq Escalation Plan Says John Edwards Campaign
Take-No-Prisoners Email by New Presidential Campaign Chief Highly Critical of Bush, Congressional Democrats

Ad to be Placed in 'Roll Call', Supporters Asked to Sign Petition Demanding Congress Cut Off Funding for New War Plan

In a harshly worded fundraising letter sent to members of John Edwards' 2008 presidential campaign e-mail list late this afternoon, his new Campaign Manager, former Congressman David Bonior (D-MI) holds little back in his sharp criticism of both George W. Bush and Democratic members of Congress for their Iraq War policies and politics. (Email posted in full at link below.)

The email --- with the eye-popping, if impolitic, subject line "Total Bull" --- first takes aim at Bush's recent pronouncements, as reported by U.S. News and World Report and elsewhere after Bush's recent appearance on CBS' 60 Minutesp last Sunday, "that Congress does not have the power to stop his proposed escalation of the war in Iraq."

"That's bull," Bonior writes before going on in the email to criticize his former Democratic colleagues in Congress, taking them to task for their failure to "step up to the plate and use their power to stop the president from escalating the war." ...

5. That's exactly right! He's not a Senator anymore, so he doesn't have to vote on this
That's why it's so hard for Senators to get elected, because it's so easy to rip apart each and every vote they take.

19. I wouldn't call what he said

mouthing off. Not saying that he was weak worded when he was a rep, I have no idea, but I think what he said is very brave considering he's one of Edwards main people.

Congress needs to back this talk with action.

4. The reality is that Dems do not have majority in Cong. that supports a cut off of funding

Edwards does not understand that fact.

6. No way to know what he's really up to . . .
. . . and it's possible that he's really clueless, as you say.

I do think that the Dems need to start screaming bloody murder, pass resolutions, start subpoenas flying, and most importantly--seize the microphone from the Repukes. Scream so loud about the abuses and murderous lies of this war that the media simply cannot ignore the outcry. Grab the control that they've been elected to wield. They aren't used to the idea that NOW they can frame the discussions both in their committee rooms . . . and in the public eye.

8. Non binding resolutions
WOW! Meaningless. Powerless. Is that what we elect these assholes for? Nothing but meaningless posturing. Ask the people to get in the streets. Oh THEY can't do that. But the asshole in chief can send thousands into war.I despise politics. Sham bullshit all of it. I know it's not easy actually doing something, and I know we are up against pure evil. But does anybody have a soul out there? I mean why do they want to be in congress in the first place? I would never be able to live with myself if I had the chance to stop a meaningless death for the hubris of George W. Bush and did not give it MY ALL. HOW CAN THEY? How? Oh yeah because politics is meaningless sham bullshit, I forgot.

I agree with Edwards-BUT he nees to lead us in the streets and show some skin.

17. While it may be to "outshine" Obama and Hillary...

Are you really suggesting that Edwards is a "flip flopper" because he came out (long ago, actually) and said he was wrong for voting for the war?

Is nobody ever able to admit a mistake?

Have added an update to the item, btw, showing a late poll out of Iowa with Edwards far and away ahead of the pack up there. FWIW.

12. Anybody know where James Webb stands on this?
I would trust his position the most. He was totally against the war, he's not running for President, and he does have skin in this---his own son.

16. Maybe we will find out when he replies to the State of the Union address.
Although that might be partially a consensus speech. On the other hand, Jim Webb seems to be totally his own man.
