Lieberman: No Need For Iraq Resolution

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman said today he saw no need for a new congressional resolution supporting President Bush's planned Iraq troop surge, a step some Republicans are discussing.

"The president has the authority to do what he's proposing to do," said Lieberman, an independent Democrat who has become one of Bush's biggest Capitol Hill Iraq war backers.

Congressional talk this week has been dominated by how and whether lawmakers will vote on trying to curb Bush's authority or funding for the mission. Sen. Lindsey O. Graham, R-S.C., an ally of Lieberman's on war strategy, has discussed countering those efforts by promoting a resolution saying that the Bush strategy "could bring about success if properly supported."

Lieberman strongly supports that view, but did not seem enthusiastic about such a measure, principally because he believes the 2002 legislation that gave Bush broad authority to wage war is sufficient.

In fact, under the circumstances, I think you were being unforgiveably polite.

Lieberman is scum.

6. An independent Democrat?
Just exactly what the hell is an independent Democrat?

"The president has the authority to do what he's proposing to do," said Lieberman, an independent Democrat who has become one of Bush's biggest Capitol Hill Iraq war backers.

One who didn't take the hint from the Democratic voters and take a hike?

It is so nice to have Lieberman so close to holding the balance of power.

35. He's not. ( holding the balance of power )
Check this out....Joe means nothing.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/1/18/211259/764

There has been some confusion and uncertainty as to whether Joe Lieberman has the power to flip control of the Senate to the Republicans. I come bearing good news!! As of this past Friday (January 12), it appears that Lieberman is powerless to effect party control of the 110th Congress.

This is due to the fact that the Senate passed a resolution on January 12 (S.Res. 27) that designates various Democrats by name as committee chairs and specifies the Democratic members of each committee. The Senate also passed a similar resolution (S. Res. 28) the same day that names various Republicans as the ranking minority members of each committee and specifies the Republican members of each committee. Based on these two resolutions, the membership of each standing committee in the Senate appears to be fixed for the duration of this Congress. Further, it includes one more Democratic member than it does Republican members in each case, thereby providing Democrats with control of the committee system and the flow of legislation in the Senate

to do during his campaign. I'd call him a flip-flopper but he's nothing but a totally rancid pile of sewage with lips.

15. True enough, a new resolution to continue is not necessary.
That does not mean, however, that congress cannot pass a resolution forbidding continuance.

18. I would gladly give up ...
the Senate in exchange for Lieberman NOT associating himself with Democrats.

Besides, at the rate we are going, a Dem President is a lock, and quite frankly I do not want either party to have control of all three branches of power.

Cheers
Drifter
