Biden ready to join presidential race
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/16582659.htm

He's telegraphed it for months in early primary states and on Sunday talk shows, but Delaware Sen. Joseph Biden Wednesday formally launches his campaign for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

Stressing his credentials as one of the party's leading voices on foreign policy, Biden, 64, vowed to "make us safe in the world" as president.

Biden is attempting a comeback 20 years after his first presidential candidacy flamed out amid accusations he plagiarized parts of his speeches and cheated in law school.

"I got back up off my back," Biden said in an interview. "I hope I established in the minds of the Ameircan public and the press that I went on to be... at least a significant senator dealing with the major problems America faces."

Biden, a senator for 34 years, joins a primary field dominated by New York Sen. Hillary Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, who are drawing outsized media attention as the potential first female and black presidents, respectively.

3. I think, and of course anything could happen, but I THINK...
I have a better chance of being the Democratic nominee for president in 2008 than Biden.

4. Most people do. I think he's running for Veep.
Biden and Richardson are ticket-balancers if someone perceived as "green" gets the nomination.

5. But isn't it traditionally good for Veep candidates to come from big
states? What does MBNA Joe add to a ticket, besides his smarmy, irritating speaking style?

6. It is smarmy isn't it?
It's like, "I don't know what he's selling, but I don't want it."

7. I know what he is selling.
No thanks, Joe. Didn't you screw us enough with your bankruptcy "reform" bill. We're still waiting for Part 2, the reestablishment of debtor prisons...

:sarcasm: mode now off

9. This may be the shortest presidential candidacy in modern history
His manager must be Max Bialystock.

Leo: This won't run a week.
Max: A week?! Are you nuts? This play has got to close on page 4!

11. Biden's Performance on the "Rave Act" Shows His True Colors
Edited on Wed Jan-31-07 01:46 PM by AndyTiedye
The "Rave Act" bill had attacted tens of thousands of letters opposing it, and very little support.
It had no chance of passage on its own. But Biden knew better than the people, so he added the
entire "Rave Act" bill to the must-pass "Amber Bill" in the conference committee. No chance for
either house to ever vote on it by itself.

For those who think the "Rave Act" is a good idea because they disapprove of raves,
one of the first uses of the act after it was passed was to prevent a political rally from taking place.

I think I would prefer almost any other Democrat.
