AFP: Musharraf admits lapses in terror war
Musharraf admits lapses in terror war

1 hour, 49 minutes ago

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (AFP) - Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf has said that
some members of the security forces had turned a "blind eye" towards Taliban
militants launching attacks in Afghanistan.

"We had some incidents I know of that in some posts, a blind eye was being turned,"
Musharraf told a press conference on Friday when asked about criticism of Pakistan's
cooperation in the US-led "war on terror."

"So similarly I imagine that others may be doing the same."

Musharraf gave the example of a typical checkpost on the Afghan border, saying it
was difficult if there are only two men standing on guard and they are faced with
a group of "20 well-armed, well-trained and well-motivated people challenging them."

But the president angrily rejected "preposterous" allegations by Afghanistan in
particular that Pakistan's intelligence services or the army were collaborating with
the insurgents.

1. So, is he looking for more cash or sending an invitation for turning a blind eye

to NATO's possible cross border activities ?

Musharraf also called on NATO and US forces based in Afghanistan to do more to tackle the cross-border movement of militants, adding that Pakistan could not win the fight against militancy on its own.

"It is also up to NATO, ISAF (international troops) -- and we refuse to take full responsibility for crossing of the border," Musharraf said.

"They must increase their (border) posts and hold the border more strongly."

Either way, I think he is up for reelection as president isn't he ?

2. Perhaps.
Or perhaps he's gotten wind of fairly unimpeachable facts--such as a claimed Taliban attack in Pakistan--and merely ducking responsibility.

If you can't be held responsible, then there's no dishonor or humiliation that can be reasonably attributed.

3. I agree. The spring offensive has been planned
and he is saying; "Don't say I didn't warn you".
imo, he relies on the same ISI members to keep him in power that are given the nod to 'look the other way'
