It's my lunchtime. They just announced that kids could go home if parents come, as there was another explosion. There are police helicopters overhead. My school is on the route from the PD to the plant on fire.
I didn't see any big smoke cloud like yesterday but I will go outside and check again in a bit.
Thanks Muse. This has been no fun at all.

Please, your eyes hurt yesterday. There is no sense doing it again today.
I can imagine what a mess it is, especially trying to teach with so much going on.
Bill said that on the way home from the hospital yesterday he could see it and smell the smoke and it was unpleasant and he was quite a way from it.
Be careful.

I looked out the window and no big cloud - yet.
One of my co-workers this morning was going on and on about the EPA sending a plane from Texas and they said our air is fine. I said "well you can put a tinfoil hat on my head and laugh at me if you want, but since 2000, I really don't trust my govt anymore to be honest or to take care of me"
She froze and said "wow I think you are making a great point there"

Plant is just east of I-35 and just south of the MO River. On the Missouri side, not in Kansas.

Hope the radios are on it. A few weeks ago on Democracy Now they had that story about the train chemcial spill that happened about 3 years ago in N. Dakota and the radios never warned the people about it. It was really scary to hear a mother on a 9-1-1 call fearing her 11 year old daugher might be dead because she had gone outside. Never heard what happened to the child.
Stay safe. Scary times.

It is east of 35. The Paseo Bridge is 35, as it goes across the river.
My school is just west of 435.

Whatever the heck those are. This morning on local news they said the plant has been here since the 1920s. That was comforting - NOT.

33. Paint thinners, solvents, paraffins, cycloparaffins and aromatic hydrocarbons. |
|
I looked it up -- there's a lot more, but you get the idea.
"Mineral spirits" is probably the old name for the products, but they're the kind of thing that's very useful but you are warned not to inhale or ingest.
Our thoughts are with you Kansas City folks as you try not to inhale.

The fire is in a plant that makes mineral spirits. And this morning they made the custodians come in early and clean off all the desks in the school with - you guessed it - mineral spirits. :scared:
