Former Ohio Rep. Bob Ney, a Heath Republican must report to minimum-security prison by March 1

WASHINGTON – A federal judge has ordered former Ohio Rep. Bob Ney, convicted in a congressional bribery scandal last year, to report to a federal minimum security prison in West Virginia in less than three weeks.

U.S. District Court Judge Ellen S. Huvelle issued an order Wednesday for Ney to surrender himself to Morgantown federal prison by 2 p.m. March 1.

Ney, a Heath Republican, was sentenced to 30 months in prison Jan. 19 after pleading guilty to conspiracy and making false statements in connection with doing favors for lobbyists in return for gifts.

Ney will spend his first week behind bars attending an orientation program designed to teach him the rules and introduce him to prison officials, Truman said.

12. I initially interpreted it as meaning 'Republican supporter of the late British PM Ted Heath'
and was VERY puzzled as (a) most American Republicans probably haven't heard of him; (b) though a Tory, he was an opponent of Thatcher and would've been far too liberal for most Republicans.

I was being very Anglocentric, I see!

5. I've been thinking of visiting Bob in prison.
Just to see him in prison issue clothing. But not if I have to drive to West Virginia.

Life just got a little happier here in the 18th district.:) :) :)

6. Something I have to share
I was talking to an elderly gentleman this week who told me that he got a phone call from Ney one night. Ney called to chew him out about things he had said about Ney. I asked if he thought Ney was drunk at the time. He said he was sure of it. A bell went off in my head. Just out of the blue one night, our phone rang. My husband answered and told me it was Bob Ney for me. I told him that I had nothing to say to that man; he relayed that message. End of phone call. Now I wonder just why Ney called. I have been an outspoken critic of him. I wonder if he was keeping an "enemies" list. Of so, I do hope I was one it.

15. "Federal Minimum Security Prison" means "Country Club".
Ney will probably be playing golf, and smoking cigars and drinking cocktails by the pool until he gets out.

These republican crooks that sell out their constituents need to do hard time in lockdown at a maximum security facility.
