Calling it the “right thing to do,” Gov. Phil Bredesen proposed a statewide ban on workplace smoking Thursday.
Bredesen said passing a workplace smoking ban, a proposal which would include restaurants and bars, would be the “single biggest thing we can do” to improve “our health” and “leave our state with a healthier environment.”

Monday, the governor supported tripling the state’s cigarette tax from 20 cents to 60 cents to pay for $220 million in new education programs.
