MSNBC- U.S. troops capture rebel leader, 78 others

Updated: 1:40 p.m. ET Dec. 16, 2003BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. troops arrested an Iraqi rebel leader and 78 others in a raid Tuesday near a town north of Baghdad where hours earlier guerrillas ambushed a U.S. patrol and sparked a gunbattle that killed 11 of the attackers.

Also Tuesday, Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, visited Iraq and said U.S. troops might stay in Iraq for one or two years.

Why keep killing these freedom fighters that are just trying to save their country from agressive Americans? Have we learned nothing? The parols would not be getting ambushed if they were here at home protecting their familes from more dangerous threats like Ashcroft and homeland security.
