Police: Ex-Congressman Exposes Self On Beach
SANIBEL, Fla. -- A former Pennsylvania congressman was accused Wednesday of exposing himself to two women at a southwestern Florida beach resort.

Joseph M. McDade, 75, was issued a summons on a charge of exposure of sexual organs, a misdemeanor that carries up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

35. I know I live very close to it. Now it costs $6.00 just to go across the bridge
to get to it. One reason they upped the price from $3 - $6 is to try and reduce the number of people who just want to go for the day to and are not really vacationing or living there. I don't blame them.

5. He was probably asking for assistance.
We'll never know unless someone recounts what was said, but I'm sure he said something like, "Excuse me ladies, but can you tell me what this is? I seem to have forgotten," to which one of the women replied, "Well, it looks like a penis, only a lot smaller."

Edited on Wed Feb-14-07 09:45 PM by davsand
There is a fairly expensive (and exclusive) golf club on Captiva (across a causeway from Sanibel) called something like the South Seas Plantain* or some such frou-frou name. They had/have some kind of major golf tournament there every year, I think.

I have to wonder if the old fart was prancing around for the big price tag set?? As old and dried out as some of those women looked I'd wonder if they even remembered or realized what he thought he was showing them...

Ew.

*Oh my. That was supposed to be plantation, but I put in plantain instead. This may be one of my better typos ever...

9. Wow! Sure glad I was not there to witness it.
Seeing ANY Republic is hard enough to endure. Poor bastards.

From Wikipedia:

Bribery
In 1992, McDade was indicted on bribery charges. He was charged with racketeering and conspiracy after accepting gifts and trips in exchange for diverting government contracts to specific groups. Although the charges were dropped in 1996, they severely injured his image. McDade retired from the House in 1999.

He served (himself?) from 1962 to 1999.

arrested for exposing himself on the street. It was very very sad.

15. My great uncle
started exposing himself after being in a nursing home for awhile. Before senility set in he was one of the nicest people you could ever meet.

So I have to think that could be a factor here based on the age.

He kicked the door shut on a glorious political Republic career. It's a fitting END.

19. Is this the same geezer who got caught in an airport men's room?
Hm, maybe not, because I seem to remember the airport masturbator was still serving in congress.

However, I do think a thorough exam by a gerontologist is in order for both these men. When behavior like that starts out of the blue (assuming that's the case) it can herald the onset of senility. And then you don't really want to be letting them out of the house without a keeper after that.

20. I read in another article he's a Parkinson's victim. And, unrelated, could dementia or Alzheimer's..
be a factor here, I'm wondering.

Just thinking out loud here. Bribery, dementia, fraud, republicanism, socially unacceptable behavior. Hmm, it makes me wonder.

34. Hey, don't like old folks nude? Stop looking
Here in California, most of the nude beaches are at the bottom of steep, treacherous cliffs. Yes, I've been to most of them. :) There's three right here in San Francisco. But I always appreciate the old folks down there who clearly aren't concerned whether or not they are turning you on. I always think that I sure do hope I can still scale those cliffs when I'm in my seventies, bald, wrinkly and pot-bellied. And if I don't make you horny? Kiss my 75-year old saggy ass. :)

But about this story, there isn't much information there. Quite likely there is more to the story than there seems. There usually is. We might shouldn't be so eager to savage an old man -- even if he is a Republican.

an absolutely awesome point. Why should old people give a rat's ass what people think? Nice reminder that we'll all look like that someday.
