China defends trade with United States

Feb 15, 2007 — BEIJING (Reuters) - China wants to achieve balanced trade with the United States, but statistical differences and U.S. restrictions are also to blame for the trade gap, a Chinese government spokeswoman said on Thursday.

U.S. figures released this week showed that in 2006 the politically volatile trade deficit with China expanded 15.4 percent to a record $232.5 billion — a result likely to intensify calls in Washington for protective legislation.

But in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said the trade gap was not as severe as U.S. numbers suggested.

"Imbalances in China-U.S. trade are an objective fact, but this is also related to the two sides' different statistical methods," Jiang told a regular news conference.

"China does not seek a long-term major trade surplus, and we're willing to further expand imports from the United States."

1. What is there for China to import from the U.S?
We don't manufacture anything and they can get the agricultural products they need cheaper from other countries. If bullshit and lies were exports the U.S. would be the world leader, bar none.
The Chinese must keep the American market propped up. If the American economy tanks then we can't afford to buy all of the products China manufactures and sells to us. It's a vicious circle.

3. Oh, they're looking for other markets, as we speak. Big meeting recently
between China, India and Russia, on how to curtail US power--especially Bush Junta potential attack on Iran. What would they do? Crash the US dollar (my guess). Who would they send their products to then? Booming middle class in India, for one. Don't know about Russia, but South America is on the rise and talking about a South American Common Market, and common currency (to get off the US dollar).

So they will all trade with each other, and we will be up shit creek, with nothing to export except depleted uranium munitions, cluster bombs, poorly armored military vehicles and old copies of the Constitution.
