18. Since there was no link...
... in your post to support your theory, the closest item which my own research provides is the following - however, it's quite a stretch to use the term "support" don't ya' think?

"US star Madonna has denied accusations that she is anti-George Bush following the furore surrounding her forthcoming music video."

The video for American Life sees Madonna throwing hand grenades to the beat of the music cut with images of victims of war. The sentiment reflected in the video caused some commentators to say Madonna was anti-Bush and pro-Iraq.

"I understand that there have been reports about my upcoming video American Life in the media - much of which is inaccurate," she said in a statement on her website. "I am not anti-Bush. I am not pro-Iraq. I am pro-peace," she said.

- SNIP -

The star is one of a growing number of celebrities who have expressed their concern about the looming war with Iraq. She said her video tried to depict the illusion of the American dream and the values held by her country. "I don't expect everyone to agree with my point of view," she added. "I am grateful to have the freedom to express these feelings and that's how I honour my country."

However on the same matter, I did find the following:

"Madonna takes swipe at Bush"

Ben Child
Monday February 10, 2003

Madonna is set to cause controversy in her home country with a new video which will act as a thinly veiled critique of George Bush's policies on Iraq.

The material mum filmed footage for the single American Life in Los Angeles last week, with some reports suggesting she will be seen in full combat gear flinging hand grenades left, right and centre to the rhythm of a pounding house beat.

American gossip writer Matt Drudge reports that the clip will contain scenes of dismembered Iraqi men and women and wounded Iraqi babies and children.

Madonna's UK spokeswoman, Barbara Charone, confirmed that the promo would contain an anti-war message.

Hmmmmm... doesn't quite sound like support - or especially endorsement - in my opinion.

I seem to remember hearing about or reading some quote of Britney's sometime in the past several months that she liked Bush, or something like that.

9. And YOU wonder why it is....
Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 08:17 AM by MarkTwain
.... that so many of us find the support base of the Dean campaign to be, at its very core, so bitter, so angry, so vehement that the majority of Democrats, and ultimately Americans, will never sign on to his primary candidacy?

This was an endorsement. Plain and simple. Is it, at all, a mark of either individual or political maturity to slam another candidate's endorsement - especially a fellow Democrat, General Clark? I certainly never have specific to any of the nods which the other candidates have received.(I'll save all of you compulsive types without a life the effort: no search of my posts will evidence such.)

How damn petty. How damn mean.

Are you all really that insecure about your confidence in the good Doctor that you stoop to some of the crap which appears above this post? Or is it that you know in your heart that, just like the majority of the Democratic party, and ultimately we shutter to anticipate, the rest of America will reject a Dean candidacy and this is your way of venting?

Sad. A pity..... which says far more about you and your candidate.

10. Man, if you think these are slams
Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 08:27 AM by khephra

I don't know if you're reacting to my posts or not, but I don't see anything in my posts that come close to being a slam. I personally like both Clark and Madonna, and said as much. But it is like being a staff writer on SNL or the Daily Show--there is a wealth of material here. It all depends on the jokes and the way it's delivered. My posts amount to "gentle ribbing" at the very most.

(now the "slutified" and "herpes" comments are a bit much, I'll agree)

Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 08:40 AM by khephra
I've been a jackass this primary like just about everyone else here. ;-)

Tis cool that she endorsed him. I'm mucho happy with the celeberties that Dean has myself. Heck, I'm glad to see any celeberty involved on the left. It's better than when a lot of them were hiding out after 9/11.

14. "I've been a jackass ..."
... although I haven't noticed it, that may be true - but I'm certain (just like in your posts above) it wasn't done with mean spirit or anger which was my point. It's not that hard to discern the two posts which motivated my thoughts.

As for the praise, it is warranted. The four digits after your moniker have been well earned, unlike many of the four digit wonders whose count is mostly worthless. You contributions and work in LBN, along with a number of others, have been appreciated in culling many important pieces over the years which I would have missed. Thanks.

A good holiday.

19. This is fodder for the Right Wing Radio RNC Fax Squad
I wonder if Wesley winced when he saw this press release.

Madonna on endorsing Wesley Clark:
"I think he has a good handle on foreign policy, I think he's good with people, and I think he has a heart and a consciousness," pop singer Madonna said. "He's interested in spirituality -- I mean, those things mean a lot to me."

.... when he saw this press release."

Precisely to the contrary:

"We're delighted with the endorsement of a superstar for our four-star," said Matt Bennett, a Clark campaign spokesman.

"The singer and children's book author met Clark a few weeks ago for over an hour. In an interview recorded last week with CNN's Denise Quan, Madonna said they discussed his becoming president."

Why is Madonna at all news? Seriously, she has a right to endorse anyone, but she's hardly been one of those celebrities who has been involved in politics, like Rob Reiner, Barbra, or even--God forbid--Charlton Heston.

26. oh dear
"Madge" is entitled to her opinion. She's entitled to announce that opinion publicly. She's entitled to fork over some of her ample dough to whatever campaign she chooses. But, Lord. I sure wish she would just shut up and sing (or write kids' books, or whatever she's into at the moment). Yeah, she's a liberal, but she always sounds so silly when she tries to talk about the issues. I think she believes her political speeches carry weight because she's Queen Madonna. But she winds up blinking a lot and sounding shrill and forced.

Love the music, Ms. Ciccone. But your political discourse makes my eyes glaze over.

36. In your opinion of course.
Its amazing how an endorsement can change people's perceptions of someone who endorses a candidate. Gore's endorsement of Dean was the perfect example.

I still think quite highly of Al Gore and respect his endorsement of Dean. If someone wants to endorse a candidate, then let him or her do so without attacking their actions or charachter. Enough is enough.

38. Let me say this much ... I may be whack-o as some terms have been
thrown about for those not thinking in the box, but I do not and will not decide upon ANY candidate according to WHO does or does not endorse them.

I will choose my candidate based upon the candidate him/herself, how they come across, what they say and most importantly IMO, if they walk the talk!

I repeat.. I think Madonna did a quick, simple, and great job of explaning her backing of General Clark!

Does Madonna have any knowledge of actual issues, like, say, Janeane Garofalo? If and when Janeane endorses a candidate, I'll be paying attention. 'Til then,

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

By the way, isn't Madonna living in London with Guy Ritchie? Perhaps she should be endorsing someone for PM...
