Nicholson calls Walter Reed situation "absolutely unacceptable"

CAPITOL HILL (AP) - The Veterans Affairs secretary says it breaks his heart.

Jim Nicholson says the substandard care and conditions some Iraq war veterans have been enduring at Walter Reed Army Medical Center are "absolutely unacceptable."

He told the House Budget Committee improvements will be made.

Both the House and Senate will hold hearings next week on the situation first reported by The Washington Post. It documented problems in soldiers' housing and in the medical bureaucracy at Walter Reed.

They Were Injured And Died In Our Name

Imus responded to the Bob Woodruff report that aired on ABC last night. Mr. Imus seems frustrated at what to do. In his words we are faced with a Secretary of the Veterans Administration who says there are less than 600 amputees. In trying to dismiss Mr. Woodruff’s figures on the number of Veteran’s seeking treatment conflicting with the DOD numbers. Secretary Nicholson says many Iraq Vets seek treatment from the VA for “dental work.” You can see the entire report including video at ABC News. Here is a clip of Imus’ response this morning. Courtesy of ABC and MSNBC:

Mr. Imus went on later in the show to talk about Secretary Nicholson, General Kiley, and the treatment of Iraq veterans. Basically saying there should be no excuse for what’s happening. You can listen to the audio here. It includes Mrs. Woodruff talking about whether her husband will still love her in spite of his brain injury.

7. until the pukkkes et al get over their cutting fever
anyone who depends on government funds is in deep jeopardy. Watch, if Dems try to get a budget with compassion, or to start to pay our own way, like during the Clinton administration, they will put on the brakes and their will be nothing we can do. They just want to kill off government, not learn to make it work.

5. BS. I read on Free Republic that this is just the "librul media trying to
make the Commander in Chief look bad IN A TIME OF WAR." This Nicholson must be an enabler and should be fired by our President forthwith.

14. The VA has nothing to do with Walter Reed Medical Center...
WRMC comes under the auspices of the Department of Defense (aka Department of War under the current regime). "Where the fuck was Rumsfeld or for that matter Gates (since he is now in charge of the DOD)?" should be the question!
