Top general calls homosexuality 'immoral'

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-070312pace,1,4954133.story?coll=chi-news-hed

Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Monday that he supports the Pentagon's "don't ask, don't tell" ban on gays serving in the military because homosexuality is "immoral" and on par with having an extramarital affair.

Addressing the controversial policy as part of a wide-ranging interview with the Tribune in Chicago, Pace said the military should not "condone" immoral behavior by allowing gay soldiers to serve openly. He said his views were based on his "upbringing," in which certain types of conduct were thought to be immoral.

"I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts...," Pace said, while also calling it immoral for military members to commit adultery with another service member's spouse. "I do not believe the United States is well served by a policy that says it is okay to be immoral in anyway.

13. Yes, I eagerly await further lecturing from Mr. Pace
I really want to hear the "moral" explanation for dropping 500 and 2000 pound bombs on unsuspecting civilians who can't fight back and can't get away. And how that squares with Jesus' commandment to love one's enemies. I'm reasonably sure that when he said that, Jesus probably meant "don't kill them."

Just checking, General.

And I wholeheartedly concur with the post upthread: all immoral service people should take their immoral bodies out of the service and go elsewhere...like into the private sector.

If you didn't follow the message thus far, here's a summary:

We don't want to know if you're homosexual, and we think you're immoral and don't condone your behavior, but by all means, feel free to die for your country.

Military gays and lesbians, PLEASE vote with your feet on this one. And thanks for your service.

Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 01:55 AM by 0rganism
If you're serious, general, I'd expect to see every soldier who has verifiable extramarital relations discharged immediately.

That means no more whoring around off base during R&R, Pace. No more underage playmates in Bangkok, no more burqa buddies in Baghdad. Now you get a court martial with your cold sore.

Let's find out how many troops are willing to re-enlist on those terms. Gen. Pace might just get his "army of one" after all.

I think Pace is a hypocrite since adultery happens throughout the military branches and happens without repercussions for the most part.
Every now and then it is used as an additional charge as part of a charge pile on when it is politically expedient to do so.

I think Pace is immoral.

In a newspaper interview Monday, Marine Gen. Peter Pace had likened homosexuality
to adultery and said the military should not condone it by allowing gays to serve
openly in the military.

“General Pace's comments are outrageous, insensitive and disrespectful to the
65,000 lesbian and gay troops now serving in our armed forces,” the advocacy
group Servicemembers Legal Defense Network said in a statement on its Web site.

The group has represented some service members dismissed from the military for their
sexual orientation.

make sure and let him know his daughter is immoral. Oh, and good job
ditching the gay Arabic linguists pre and post 9/11. Who needs them anyway, right Peter?

Edited to add: Fuck you Pace.

73. What an uptight hypocrite
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 08:56 AM by suegeo
How about stealing:
elections?
Billions of tax payers dollars?
Iraq's oil?

How about leaving people to drown/die in a hurricane?

How about forging documents with help of Italians, leading to an invasion that leaves thousands dead and many more maimed?

How about ignoring warnings, in early 2001, about an upcoming attack on America, which lead to inaction on the part of the military and the subsequent deaths of about 3000?

Torture, any one? Got Fascism?

There isn't enough room to document the current immorality of this guy and his bosses, not to mention all the past, immoral B.S. pulled by the military and our "leaders" E.G. -- would anyone like to use a blanket contaminated with small pox? How about Tuskegie (sp?) Airmen?

Lecture away mega-douche bag. The only ones listening are members of the general Pace sterility cult.

82. Why do you think TIME published this now?
Comes at exactly the same time AIPAC has managed to pressure Democratic Congressmen to excise the measure expressly forbidding Bush from attacking Iran without Congressional approval. I see this as an effort to try to isolate Pace from his base of support among progressive Democrats, and that has everything to do with his role in resisting White House efforts to escalate tensions against Iran.

I disapprove of expressions of bigotry, as well, but I also see the bigger picture about what's going on here.

Think about it before you hop on this bandwagon. This is an AIPAC campaign against Pace for his pushback against their Iran war program.

84. Thanks for your opinion, General
I think we've heard it for the last few hundred years. Did someone ask his opinion? Is anyone surprised? Doesn't he have something better to do, like lose a war or something?
