AP: US Airways Says Thousands Still Stuck
US Airways Says Thousands Still Stuck
2 Days After Ice Storm, US Airways Says Trying to Find Seats
for 100,000 Stuck Travelers

By MARYCLAIRE DALE

PHILADELPHIA Mar 18, 2007 (AP)— Thousands of weary travelers faced a third
day waiting to reach their destinations Sunday as US Airways struggled to
recover from the ice and snow storm that paralyzed airports in the Northeast.

The airline was still trying to find seats for 100,000 passengers systemwide
whose flights were grounded by Friday's storm, spokesman Andrew Christie said.
Many of the passengers were diverted to US Airways' hub in Charlotte, N.C.,
on Friday.

Computer problems, airline staffing rules and other problems slowed US Airways'
attempts to clear the backlog. In addition, the airline's flights on Sunday were
already nearly sold out with 275,000 passengers booked, the airline said.

"Now we are in the process of repositioning our crew, our planes and we are
trying to re-accommodate roughly 100,000 customers who didn't make their
final destinations on Friday," Christie said.

1. I definitely misread that headline...
...as "AP: US Airways Says Thousands Still Suck," and I thought this was going to be another Ralph Fiennes/Mile High Club story! I guess my brain is still on Spring Break. :silly:

2. Long Live America West Airlines
Here in Phoenix, this is all very bittersweet.

Doug Parker, he of the multiple drunk-driving arrests, just HAD to take his success story at AmWest, the hometown airline of Phoenix, and completely FUCK IT UP by purchasing the terrible piece of real estate that is US Airways.

US Airways = money trouble, high-profile crashes, union problems, more union problems, fleet problems, pilot problems...

Then, to add insult to injury, Parker chose to retain the US Airways name, despite that it was AMERICA WEST that bought US Airways and therefore kept them in business.

I'd love to see them go belly-up, frankly. We lost our beloved little airline a LONG time ago.

3. So glad he didn't get Delta!
I must say, Delta was in no position to negotiate, but the creditors were smart enough to see that the takeover would be doomed to failure. Trying to integrate 3 different airlines into one?! I remember when Delta took over Western - plenty of trouble and problems even during the "glory days".

Nothing good has come out of this merger/acquisition.

flight though it was delayed 3 hours...She said she was lucky when her Friday morning Delta/Continental Express flight was cancelled early and there were still seats available on Saturday flights.
