On edit from Charlotte paper.

Michael was found shortly after 11 a.m. today in a heavily wooded area northeast of the primitive campsite where his Boy Scout troop was camping over the weekend, parks spokeswoman Tina White said. Rescuers are walking him out of the woods now. Michael's parents have headed into the woods to meet them, she said.

White doesn't have any other information about his condition yet.

1. Incident Commander: he was able to walk out on his own
the headline of "missing hiker found" did not say if alive or a body had been found.

YAY

I can't imagine the stress of having a child go missing. It fills me with terror.

11. Great news!
I caught a bit of the father on TV this morn, my heart went out to that family, naturally. So glad to hear this good news. Imagining their horror was quite bad, imagining their joy now is quite another story!

14. I've been listening to CNN today and find their reporting/interviewing
bordering on ignorance.

Many of the questions they ask are idiotic.

20. Let's hear it for the dog - Search dog Gandalf found him
Edited on Tue Mar-20-07 03:40 PM by RamboLiberal
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/03/20/missing.scout/index.html

Searchers with the help of a sharp-nosed dog named Gandalf found a 12-year-old Boy Scout on Tuesday who had disappeared into the North Carolina wilderness over the weekend, authorities said.

<snip>

Searcher Misha Marshall said Gandalf detected Michael's scent and alerted rescuers. When they approached Michael "he was a little disoriented, but he¹s great," Marshall said.

"It took him a minute to realize we were there for him," she said. Asked how Michael reacted when he saw the rescuers, Marshall recalled Michael saying, " 'I¹m hungry, give me some water,' stuff like that."

You can see Gandalf at end of this video. Great big black beautiful dog - give him a steak! http://www.wsoctv.com/video/11308143/index.html
