Iraqi Officer Disappears From Ala. Base

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- An Iraqi military officer attending an Air Force training program has disappeared, and federal and local law enforcers are searching for him, a Customs official said Thursday.

The Iraqi was attending a Defense Department training course through the Air University at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery, said Temple Black, a Customs spokesman. His identity was not released.

"There is no indication that this student is a national security or public safety concern," Black said in the brief statement.

The Washington Times reported Thursday that the Iraqi "left a note stating that he was leaving the yearlong military course because he did not want to return to war-torn Iraq."

3. didn't alot of South Vietnamese officers just disappear in the US,
I seem to recall something about a group of South Vietnamese fighter pilots, like a dozen of them, who were sent to "Top Gun" just disappearing several days after they arrived in the US for training. I am thinking 1973-74ish?

I was pretty young, but I remember the end of the Vietnam War very well because all of the sudden every Vietnamese family on my street had something like a dozen house guests.

9. Everything about this war has a corollary with the Vietnam War

It is a quagmire. It is a quagmire that had plenty of warning signs that were ignored. It was a based on a false catylistic event. We are abandoning Iraqis like we did the Montagnards.

A sham, a debacle and a crime.

6. Actually, how DO we know he isn't Al Quaida in Iraq? After all, the ability of the
Bush administration to determine just who is and isn't a terra-ist is not all that reassuring. What better way to infiltrate the U.S. that to come in as part of an officially sanctioned training program, then disappear into the woodwork before it is time to go back? It is pure genius. OBL must be laughing his ass off, if he has any ass left after he conned Bush into invading Iraq.
