Peoples Daily OnlineA car bomb explosion and mortar barrage struck a police station in Baghdad's Shiite bastion of Sadr City on Wednesday while U.S. troops were present there, causing casualties, Iraqi police and state television said.
"A car bomb blast and mortar rounds hit the al-Jaza'er police station in the northern edge of Sadr City in eastern Baghdad after midday, killing and wounding undetermined number of people," the state-run al-Iraqia TV channel reported.
An anonymous Interior Ministry source told Xinhua that the car bomb detonated near the police station and the attack was followed by four mortar rounds landing in the area during the presence of U. S. troops there.
It was not clear whether there was any casualty as the U.S. troops immediately cordoned off the area preventing the Iraqi security forces from approaching the scene, the source added.
