Imus Set for Sharpton's Radio Show
Source: ABC

Don Imus will appear on the Rev. Al Sharpton's radio show on Monday, five days after Imus made racially charged comments his own show about the Rutgers women's basketball team, Sharpton and MSNBC announced Sunday.

Despite Imus' scheduled appearance, Sharpton said his position was unchanged: He wants Imus fired and intends to write the Federal Communications Commission about the matter.

"Somewhere we must draw the line in what is tolerable in mainstream media," Sharpton said Sunday. "We cannot keep going through offending us and then apologizing and then acting like it never happened. Somewhere we've got to stop this."

The Rev. Jesse Jackson said his RainbowPUSH Coalition plans to protest Monday in Chicago outside the offices of NBC, which owns MSNBC, over the remark Imus made last Wednesday during his show.

Chapter 1 “Separation Perfected”

1.

In societies where modern conditions of production prevail, all of life presents itself as an immense accumulation of spectacles. Everything that was directly lived has moved away into a representation.
2.

The images detached from every aspect of life fuse in a common stream in which the unity of this life can no longer be reestablished. Reality considered partially unfolds, in its own general unity, as a pseudo-world apart, an object of mere contemplation. The specialization of images of the world is completed in the world of the autonomous image, where the liar has lied to himself. The spectacle in general, as the concrete inversion of life, is the autonomous movement of the non-living.
3.

The spectacle presents itself simultaneously as all of society, as part of society, and as instrument of unification. As a part of society it is specifically the sector which concentrates all gazing and all consciousness. Due to the very fact that this sector is separate, it is the common ground of the deceived gaze and of false consciousness, and the unification it achieves is nothing but an official language of generalized separation.
4.

The spectacle is not a collection of images, but a social relation among people, mediated by images.

12. I have another idea.
From the times I have watched this show, it is pretty apparent to me that when this stuff rears its ugly head, you can bet Bernard started it. His role is essentially that of The Voice of Satan, that tempts all and leads them astray.

But that is fixable. Fire Bernard.

The Fear of God will be put into the rest of them and that show will just die a more natural, less sensational death over the ensuing year or two it will have left.

Because take away Bernard and all you have left is two pompous bags of wrinkles and radio that brings new meaning to the word "average".

3. Will he be allowed to take his peanut gallery with him? He may falter without the support
of his venemous, twisted racist/women-hating helpers.

He'll NEVER be able to look someone decent in the eye and keep up any kind of conversation. It's his style to take cheap pot shots at people who can't hit back at him.

6. Fire Him
Imus' remarks about the Rutger's Women's basketball team displays something about the media concerning black athletes. Imus' remarks shows the racism involved in the media when discussing black athletes. Imus did something similar to what many reporters have done. Everyday we hear about the black athletes and their tattoos. Everyday we are told that these tattoos show these athletes are thugs who love violence. Just think about the NBA, Allen Iverson, street cred, and the so-called hip-hop culture. However, we never hear Imus or any other reporter say anything the same thing about the myriad of white athletes, like Jason Babin and company who have multiple tattoos. For some reason the white athletes who have tattoos are not thugs who just want to beat up people, or steal someone's purse.

Even though I am a little torn I think he should be fired. I am very much in favor of the right to free speech even when someone says something I do not like, or something I think is wrong. In addition, I was somewhat reluctant to accept the idea that Imus should be fired. I was looking at the situation as he has a right to say things even if it pisses me and other people off. However, when I read the full story and saw that Imus and his producers had done things similar to this on numerous occasions I felt he should be fired. I do not think he should be allowed to continually spew hatred and fear against people who have not done anything wrong.

9. He hob nobs with MS Corporate Media on his show, he uses "hate speech"
and just because he has a Ranch that supposedly helps sick kids and his wife hobnobs with Beltway Society in charity causes he gets to spew his hateful venom on MSNBC in the morning where kids could be watching. If someone wants to listen to him on the radio spewing his crap then fine. But, some of us are sick of hate talk on our Tee Vee when we pay for it.

Saying "turn it off" isn't an answer because it's EVERYWHERE and those wanting to watch news stations shouldn't be subjected to crap you could hear from every two bit hate monger on the free radio...including that ASS Limpballs who has turned millions into haters with his venom.

Imus turned into a shill years ago and just because he gives "celebrities" including the Beltway Pundits and Politicians a chance to donate to his ranch (for big tax breaks) and gives them "book selling opportunities" on his show ....he still spreads hate speech and trivializes our political system.

It's time for MSNBC to drop him. He gone too far for too long and his diatribes against "stupid women" and now his vile racist comments about "nappy, ho's" has shown him for the obnoxious racist he really is under the surface.

15. I don't care if Imus stays or goes, but why is it okay for rap artists
and so-called "gangstas" to commonly refer to black women as "bitches and hos?" I saw Snoop on the tube the other day with 2 women on a leash. Why is it acceptable for the black community to allow this, but act shocked when Imus - the twisted clone of Don Rickles - runs off at the mouth? I've heard a lot worse from black comedians. It doesn't make it right, but I think the the black leaders who are justly outraged need to take a look closer to home as soon as they're done with Imus.

18. Which black leaders approve of such rap lyrics again?
The head of the black journalists assn. quoted in many of the articles about Imus has specifically said racist pejoratives are wrong no matter who uses them.

Your ire should be focused on those who utter racial insults, not on groups or individuals who, despite their condemnation, have no direct control over others' behavior.

BTW, noting your indifference to Imus' continued employment, wouldn't you say a public reprimand and appropriate punishment such as loss of his job might give pause to others who currently think nothing of saying such things?

19. Imus is an act. He insults everyone and was clearly out of line.
I don't think whether or not he is fired will make any difference whatsoever. He'll retire to one of his estates, count his money and write books about how he was "done wrong."

17. I dislike Imus
I have never found him funny (during his apology he said it was a comedy show, sorry I don't see it that way Mr. Imus.) You see I remember the comments about chicken democrats, and traitor democrats. And when he said Ann Cult-in-her had a good point....um, I better stop now. I think you get my point!
