U.S. troops attack university professors in Diyala
Source: Azzaman

<snip>

In a statement, the university said U.S. troops detonated doors in the residential complex and searched the professors ‘in a very provocative manner.’

Dr. Saadoun al-Ujaili, head of the university’s public relations office, said even the houses and flats which were empty were searched and their doors destroyed.

“The U.S. troops handcuffed several professors fro several hours in the middle of the complex’s public garden and in front of other occupants,” Ujaili said.

...

The statement by the university said many professors were packing and were determined to leave the city.

“They are searching for a place that will preserve their dignity,” the statement said.

15. You are SO correct. Eliminating the professional and educated class of Iraq assures control.
Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 06:47 PM by BeHereNow
It is deliberate.
The uneducated masses are ever so much easier to manage-
as we have witnessed in this country.
Prior to the invasion/occupation of Iraq, that country had
one of the highest level of educated thinkers/ people on the planet.

11. Democrats and Progressives have allowed a taboo to form against criticizing the troops.
And the Republicans and Neocons are using that taboo to force them to keep funding the war.

And "detonating residential doors" and searching professors is what stormtroopers do. Are even these actions going to be defended here?

20. I'm near Camp Pendleton, and there's a lot of cheerleading
whenever some soldiers massacre people or form a rape gang: Haditha, Hamdania, Mahmudiyah are all points of pride for some people!!!
And of course we can't make a murmur when these people applaud the moral equivalents of janjaweed--they're the victims, remember!

Probably took the author of the article all night to dream it up. Too bad it's so obviously full of hot air... maybe he should ask AQ for pointers..

16. This is a dry run for martial law here in the states
Lynn Cheney and David Horowitz already pay students to terrorize professors here. When the neocons finally give up on taking over Iraq, they'll start turn their attention to manufactured enemies here. Professors will be among the first targets. Hope we're ready to resist.
