Wolfowitz Offers Changes at World Bank
Source: AP/Examiner

WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Fighting to keep his job, World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz is offering to make management changes at the institution, officials close to the situation said Thursday.

The overture - which came during a meeting of bank vice presidents on Wednesday - was made as Wolfowitz is facing mounting calls for his resignation. The controversy is over Wolfowitz's role in arranging a high-paying job for Shaha Riza, a bank employee who he has dated.

The World Bank's 24-member board is expected to meet behind closed doors on Thursday to discuss the matter. It is not clear what action, if any, the board might take. Wolfowitz has said he made a mistake and has apologized.

At Wednesday's meeting, Wolfowitz stated anew that he did not intend to step down, according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not permitted to speak on behalf of the bank. They said Wolfowitz spoke in general terms for the need to improve the bank's management, including that of his inner office, and to soften his management style. He also invited recommendations.

5. Why the hell would anyone trust this guy. He's already admitted
they lied about Iraq so you know his honesty factor is zilch. And now he's been caught lying and pacifying his mistress by giving he a job and money that he had no right to give her.

Oh yeah, this is a guy I'd trust all right. :sarcasm: big time

7. Oh great! Wolfie promises to clean house while staying put.
Does he plan to fire all of his right-wing henchmen and cronies
to save his own neck? Wolfie is problem #1 and the World Bank
lacks credibility as long has he and is people run it.

Wolfie, his people, their favoritism, and their hidden agendas
all need to go.

10. ah gee
If we can all forgive Imus, surely we can find it in our hearts to forgive Wolfowitz this peccadillo.

Did I hear "double standard" being mooted and bruited about somewhere?

Oh, I know, sarcasm is sometimes lost on the audience.

The real double standard, of course, is the one applied by Wolfowitz to himself and to the rest of the world. Corruption is the scourge of any society or institution, and he moved it right in the back door as he was announcing its departure from the front.

12. The change I recommend
is that Wolfie moves to the other side of the door. (Not letting it hit him, of course.)
