How can we let that happen in this country? With all the ways people can communicate and organize now, how can we have let that happen. Thank God it is almost over.

158. The fools were not misled.
Many are simply corrupt and rotten to the core. others went along for political expediency. Others were simply afraid. Any member of Congress who was misled by the Bush administration, could not possibly have the intellectual capacity to effectively serve as a member of Congress.

During the 2000 election campaign, I had no doubts about the vileness of the Bush gang, and I had never logged even one second on the internet. In fact, it was the apparent collusion between the corporate media establishment and the Bush campaign in order to install these criminals in our government, which drove me to the internet for news and information. I can never believe that any member of Congress was fooled by these people.

The historical record will be very kind to Mr. Kucinich.

It did not say senator or representative, just the only true Democrat. I also doubt that he is the "only" Democratic member of the House with real, true guts. There might be one or 2 more. Let's hope so, otherwise we are in trouble.

85. The House votes to bring articles of impeachment and the Senate tries the case.
It takes 67 votes in the Senate to convict. We know exactly who the jury will be and have a good idea how they might vote. Probably more would vote to convict Cheney at this time than Bush, but if the articles were brought right now there would be no vote for probably many months.

100. Exactly, But it takes one Rep and one Senator to get the ball rolling
The entire House could be for impeachment and if no Senators speak up it's dead in the water. Likewise Every Senator could be for impeachment, but if no Rep speaks out, nothing happens. I wouldn't mind Congress dragging Cheney's ass through the mud over the summer and into the fall.

105. I don't know from where you are getting this idea that 1 Rep and 1 Senator are needed?
From: http://www.abanet.org/publiced/impeach2.html

"Q. What is the role of the House of Representatives in impeachment under the Constitution?
A. Article 1, Section 2, of the Constitution specifies that "the House of Representatives...shall have the sole power of impeachment." This means that it has the power to bring charges against an official.

Q. What is the Senate's role under the Constitution?
A. Once impeached, high officials are tried by the Senate. Article 1, Section 3, specifies, "The Senate shall have the sole power to try all impeachments. When sitting for that purpose, they shall be on oath or affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two thirds of the members present."

Where does it say that 1 representative and 1 senator are needed to get the process started? The House has the "sole" power of impeachment. The Senate has the "sole" power to try all impeachments. I think this is clear. Impeachment is not conviction just the same as indicting a person for a crime that everybody seems to claim is guilty is the same as conviction.

Edited on Tue Apr-24-07 07:23 AM by Thor_MN
Rep after rep stood up and called for impeachment proceedings. Rep after Rep was asked if ther was a Senator who joined them. Rep after Rep walked away saying no.

Impeachment proceedings will not begin unless ar least one Rep and one Senator call for them.

The irony was that Gore was presiding as rep after rep stood up, asking for a senator to join them. Impeachment is brought solely by the House--that is clear.

So as I read this it's not two thirds of the the members of the Senate; it's two thirds of the members present.

And what about the "Chief Justice"? Would Roberts recuse himself?

38. We shall see
I doubt Kucinich will let it drop at that.

Kucinich is earnest about this effort and truly believes (as I do) that impeachment is what is required. The cowardly position of the worry-trolls, DLC defaults, and the phoney-pragmatists is actually the wrongest possible position and will lose in both the short term (being uninspiring to the people at large) and the long term (history will ONLY be kind to those who make the stand).

The unfortunate bit is that the right wing smear machine will shout that Kucinich is using this as a campaign issue to gain some ground on his better funded (but rather boring and absurdly moderate competetion).

This isn't entirely bad news though as it changes the argument. The "Is Dennis crazy" question just can't sustain itself and any attempts to profile him for his 'craziness' will actually just give him ink and put progressive issues on the table. Any leftward shift on the issues will actually benefit ALL Democratic candidates (even the ones a bit too moderate for my tastes).

important issue to many other Democrats. If it does not make it out of the Judiciary Committee, well, then that will be the fault of either a corrupt and/or incompetent Judiciary Committee. Cheney is a traitor, a liar, and a crook, and deserves to be, at the very least, publicly insulted for his crimes against the people of our country and the world by a call for his impeachment.

Rep. Kucinich is completely justified in calling for Cheney's impeachment.

What exactly does "off the table" mean? Something like, "shut up and do as you are told"?

And if no big name publisher will take it - we and some foundations should fund the printing and distribution. Just like Regenery and Harper-Collins does for their partners.

And I also hope someone can document a chronological account of his efforts and quotes.

going for a 15-year-old single malt Scotch. I was thinking something more along the lines of Ripple or MD 20/20. Though Jack Daniels or Jim Beam isn't out of the question (not that either of those is bad, I do prefer Knob Creek and Makers Mark bourbon, though.) But high-end Scotch? Nah...

But if they actually impeach Cheney I'm gonna splurge on a premium bottle of something... :D

My guess.... "he is a far left, liberal, radical, blah, blah, does not represent a majority of Democrats, blah, blah, bullshit,bullshit..."

And than it goes away....

Another interesting angle...

What will the other Dem presidential candidates say? Will Hillary take a stand? What about Obama?

My guess...they run away fast.

I hope I am wrong.

44. Hillary & Obama will try to distance themselves from the issue.
They're too busy trying to be marketable to be real statesmen/women at this point. And that is NOT what this country needs right now! We need people to get rid of the criminal mafia that has overtaken this country, and not just be bought-off by the huge megadollars coming their way.

O8) I hope this impeachment goes all the way to removal! O8)

Cheney has committed more crimes than any mafia boss.

70. The timing on this could be a lot better
Namely Bush and Co are currently spiraling out of control with the attorney scandal, by putting forward articles of impeachment this draws attention away from something that could nail the whole administration instead to one guy who, while important, isn't the whole shebang and unfortunately does give the GOP machine ammo for claiming that the investigations are partisan fishing expeditions. A political Falaise pocket, Kucinich is stamping on the possibility of the Dems and the people nailing EVERYONE and knocking them down one after the other and instead is giving the opportunity to get only one and let the rest go.

111. Actually, Cheney IS the "whole shebang"
You don't actually believe Bush is in charge do you? With Gonzo gone (and he WILL be gone) and Cheney gone (assuming Pelosi actually grows a spine) he has virtually no support. His original legions of supporters is down to a trickle now. Prominent conservatives all over the country are urging him to stand down on Iraq before he completely destroys their party.

Oh, and by all means, lets be fearful of giving the conservative media "ammo." By what? Keeping the powder dry? The conservatives and their lapdog MSM will make those accusations anyway. That little mini revolution in 2006 were shouts by the voters of America DEMANDING change from their representatives -- Republican AND Democrat. No more war. No more corruption. No more sweetheart deals with big corps. If this batch won't stand up here and now at this VERY historic moment, they too can be replaced.

146. You're missing the point
We take out Cheney, we absolve Bush of responsibility. We allow for the administration to pull out the bullshit argument that unfortunately too many people will believe that with Cheney gone we're fixing the problem. That and Bush still has people who support him, and to assume he can't pull in replacements who are just as bad but not tarred with a bad reputation like say Robert Gates as an example of that kind of bait and switch is to be failing to look any further than the end of your nose. That and knowing Bush if we don't get all of them one after the other then they will find ways to recover, we can't just nibble away we have to setup the impeachment so there is no question it needs to happen in the minds of at least 60% of the American people AND we have to get them ALL, one after the other, not a little bit here a little bit there. Doing it one piece at a time lets them get replacements, we have to get them ALL at once or we're going to have a hard, messy fight up ahead of us.

"Oh, and by all means, lets be fearful of giving the conservative media "ammo." By what? Keeping the powder dry? The conservatives and their lapdog MSM will make those accusations anyway. That little mini revolution in 2006 were shouts by the voters of America DEMANDING change from their representatives -- Republican AND Democrat. No more war. No more corruption. No more sweetheart deals with big corps. If this batch won't stand up here and now at this VERY historic moment, they too can be replaced."

The big thing the GOP used to campaign against us is, "They'll impeach if they get in." Granted it was more to rile up the base, but what if we prove them right? We're going to lose credibility with the voters who put the party back in charge to fix the problem, not crucify Bush.

That and there's one other problem I have with this: it smells waaaaay too much like Kucinich is doing it not because it needs to be done or because it can be pulled off but to get attention to get the nomination. That he's doing this and not working with the rest of the party to get ALL of them ALL at once has lost a lot of respect for him in my eyes that he's putting his own ego, his own image, ahead of the greater good of the whole of taking them ALL out. That and thanks to him attention is now going the wrong way: to his impeachment effort and NOT to the fuckups caused by BUSH. By going after Crashcart instead of waiting until we can get them all at once he has given Bush a way out and a way to look good and clean. If you're ok with that then you seem to be missing the long-term picture and the bigger perspective.

I can't find online info on this yet but I heard it for sure on MSNBC around 9am this morning.

First they said he went to hospital.

Then they came back and said someone called to tell them he went to his doctor's office, not the hospital.

Stay tuned.

AND HOW DARE KUCINICH GO AFTER THIS SICK MAN!! :sarcasm:

124. It's about time someone with a national audience raised the Impeachment issue.
The first shot has been fired and another log has been thrown on the fire - keeping the light shining on the many foibles of the Bushco regime.

134. Can't find the feed either;
If it's not on, it did not happen. It COULD be covered by faux, however I have had all those channels blocked for almost a year. I'll leave it to those with access to look there.

135. That's the way to do it.
Impeach Cheney first so he won't become President if they impeach Bush. Impeaching Cheney will bring out enough dirt in the process to convict Bush for all his crimes.

Edited on Tue Apr-24-07 01:07 PM by knight_of_the_star
He's putting this grand, glorious, necessary action of great integrity that can't seem to wait on hold because Crashcart is having a convenient medical problem? Sounds to me like he knows he won't be able to pull it off and he's trying to back out. Integrity my ass, sounds more like, "I want a spotlight on me!!!!"

against a sitting V.P.?

Should Americans vote for impeachment by sending just $3.33 to Kucinich?
