FBI Asks Feeney About Ties To Lobbyist


WASHINGTON -- Facing additional scrutiny over his ties to Jack Abramoff, U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney said he is cooperating with federal officials in their ongoing probe into the dealings of the imprisoned ex-lobbyist, accoding to Local 6 News partner Florida Today.

"The Justice Department has contacted Rep. Feeney to request more information regarding this matter and he is pleased to voluntarily cooperate," his office said in a statement released Tuesday.

Last week, the FBI contacted Florida Today to ask for a copy of a taped interview between Feeney and the paper's editorial board. In the tape, the Oviedo Republican defends his dealings with Abramoff, whom he said he did not know very well.

The FBI also contacted the Orlando Sentinel and the St. Petersburg Times last week seeking similar information, the newspapers reported.

The Times said it was asked about an e-mail it received from Feeney's office about a luxury golf trip the congressman took in 2003 with Abramoff to Scotland.
