Corzine Says He Will Leave the Hospital Soon
Source: NYT

CAMDEN, N.J., April 27 — Gov. Jon S. Corzine told the state’s top two legislators on Friday that he expected to be released from the hospital on Tuesday or Wednesday and that he would continue his recuperation at Drumthwacket, the governor’s mansion in Princeton, instead of at the Hoboken condominium where he lives.

The State Senate president, Richard J. Codey, who is serving as acting governor, and Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts Jr. were the first elected officials to meet with the governor since he was seriously injured in a traffic accident on April 12.

Instead, Mr. Corzine told them that he saw himself as a changed man since the accident. The governor also said he would take at least another week before deciding when he would resume his official duties.

“I think that he views this, very literally, as a second lease on life,” Mr. Roberts said. “In many ways, I think Governor Corzine is a different person than he was before all this happened.” Mr. Codey added, “He told me, ‘I’ve never been at peace with myself the way I have been since this happened.’ ”

1. almost dying can do that to you.
I had the same type of reaction after being diagnosed with cancer, (even though it was caught so early that just surgery was the solution.)

7. Corzine to pay own medical bills
http://www.nypost.com/seven/04282007/news/regionalnews/corzine_picks_up_med_bills_regionalnews_.htm

Multimillionaire New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine will spare taxpayers a hefty tab and use his own money to pay for his medical treatment following an automobile crash 15 days ago, a spokesman said yesterday.

Spokesman Anthony Coley also said Corzine would do his rehabilitation work from the governor's mansion in Princeton once he is released from Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

<snip>

Corzine wasn't wearing his seat belt, as required by state law.

He broke his leg, 11 ribs, his collarbone and sternum, and fractured a vertebra in his lower back.

8. "Drumthwacket" ???
Sorry, I had never heard the name of the New Jersey Governor's mansion. What a hoot!

But on topic, I for one am very glad to hear he will be out of the hospital. It sounds like he intends to make the most of his new lease on life.

Just remember, Guv, penance requires you to do public service announcements about wearing seat belts!

9. Me either...and I grew up in NJ
Edited on Sun Apr-29-07 03:10 AM by rainbow4321
Never knew it had a name til the previous NJ guv made the news and they referred to it in the media...guess I never knew it because it wasn't the official NJ guv residence til 1981 and I left in 1983.

In 1835 Charles Smith Olden built the stately central portion of the mansion. He was inspired by the architecture of New Orleans, having been in business there, and built his home with a colossal portico and six massive pillars topped by Ionic capitals. Olden led a life of dedicated public service, including Governor of New Jersey in 1860.

A later owner, Moses Taylor Pyne, enlarged the mansion to its present dimensions by adding two wings, one of which included a Gothic wood-paneled library. He also gave Drumthwacket its Celtic name, which allegedly means "wooded hill."

Owned by the State of New Jersey since 1966, in 1981 Drumthwacket was designated the Governor's residence. It is managed as an historic site by the Drumthwacket Foundation, which furnished the mansion with some of the finest examples of the 18th and early 19th centuries, including tall case clocks and pieces by Matthew Egerton.
