Mahdi Militia: We Have Special Unit To Target Prince Harry
Source: AND

Prince Harry will be a prime kidnap target for insurgents in Iraq, a commander in the Mahdi army, the Shia militia loyal to the radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, told Britain's Guardian newspaper. "One of our aims is to capture Harry, we have people inside the British bases to inform us on when he will arrive," claimed Abu Mujtaba, who commands a unit of around 50 men active in the Mahdi army in Basra.

In comments denounced by British defense sources as "blatant propaganda", Abu Mujtaba told the Guardian: "We have a special unit that would work to track him down, with informants inside the bases. "Not only us, the Mahdi army, that will try to capture him, but every person who hates the British and the Americans will try to get him, all the mujahideens in Iraq, the al-Qaeda, the Iranians all will try to get him."

8. It's grounds for doing some very nasty things
to Sadr's group.

Claim that it's an official plan, and then that the only implication is that Sadr's Allah's all for blood sacrifice and using people as coinage. And if that's Sadr's Islam, then it's a heinous religion ... or he can correct the impression he's given the world, dishonoring Iraqis and all Shi'ites, saying that Islam teaches hate and human sacrifice ... and religion not worthy of the descendants of apes and pigs. Hasn't Sadr advocated killing Muslims for sport, because, well, he needs their blood? Obviously his followers must not realize that he's an enemy of Allah, because they have honor, and certainly Iran wouldn't support such an arrogant blasphemer.

That'll get his attention.

13. Igil: is Iraq part of the Commonwealth?
I don't understand your position.
If you are agaist the invasion of Iraq and the resulting massacre of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, the prostitution of parent-less Iraqi kids, the pollution of Iraqi waters and environment etc, why do you feel that a British Prince should have the right to go there safely, overseeing the killing.
Sadr may be (like all of them those folks who hear the voice of God personally) a fanatic but in what way does it make it wrong for an Iraqi to try to capture an occupying force? Having said that, I wish the Prince and the Brits well but I don't think he should go there. More: I think no one should go there now.

2. I don't know. I really think this guy should have stayed home.
If he'd been a Bush family member, he would have. "Right-O! Cheerio and all that rot!"

3. They all should have stayed home
but at least Harry is walking the walk.

I hope he survives this mess.

5. Agreed. I give him credit.
I too hope he gets through it okay. I can't help but think about his mom. Of course she is passed, but I know she'd be proud of his courage and "Britishness" though worried sick for his welfare. For his sake, I hope her spirit lives. She will watch out for him if she can.

4. Article: Army Rethinking Sending Prince To Iraq
British military officials are reconsidering allowing Prince Harry to deploy with his military unit in Iraq, The Times of London reported.

Officials reportedly fear that an attack last week on a Scimitar armored vehicle that killed two soldiers in Iraq was a rehearsal for a future attack on the prince. The deaths -- and the rising number of British casualties in Iraq -- have led military officials to re-evaluate plans to deploy the prince, known as Cornet Wales when he is on duty.

The prince has insisted he wants to do the job he has been trained for. But some top officers fear that the third in line to the British throne could put other soldiers at risk because he would be a target for attacks or kidnapping, the newspaper said.

6. I think Harry is putting his fellow soldiers at a great risk and should not
be allowed to do this.

In addition----other soldiers are needed to quard him.

7. I admire Harry for wanting to do his duty, but with these circumstances
surrounding his deployment, I feel it is better that he stays away from Iraq.

14. If i were an insurgent, I know damn well I would target a high profile individual
such as Prince Harry. The PR from an attack, successful or not, would be tremendous. While I admire the Prince's willingness to serve in Iraq, I for one would not want to be anywhere near him. He's got a target on his head and everyone around him is just an added bonus.

16. Can't say I'm surprised they are targeting him.
Seems like this is pretty much a no-brainer that he'd be wearing an insurgent target. The kid has been a "target" all his life to one political group or another. If it isn't wearing a target in Iraq it is wearing one at home in Jolly Old England from any number of folks who want to "prove" a point by killing off or kidnapping a Royal.

I respect him for serving, as I do ANY soldier, but I sure wouldn't want anyone I loved to be in his unit right now.

had better go into permanent hiding.

And I doubt bush will ever be able to set foot on British soil again.

The British people still love her deeply, and her sons are precious to them - Wills and Harry are all the public has left of her.

12. Chimpy was disinvited from Britain by the Queen after the 2003
disaster: his squadrons tore up Buckingham's gardens, paralyzed the nation's chief city, rampaged through royal and public spaces--and he brought his own cooks along and refused to eat what hers prepared!

15. Sometimes you need REAL royalty to put phony-ass poseur "royalty"
in its proper place. Good for Her Majesty! I remember that.

I think everybody should stop and ask "his lordship" - "just WHO THE HELL do you think you are???" george needs to be put in his place - VERY BADLY. I would say, at this point, his place would be San Quentin. Or better yet, The Hague. Along with all his scheming, imperious, lying, cheating, holier-than-thou, more-deserving-than-thou, elitist, smug, greedy, snot-nosed little pirate friends.

17. Royal Unit ?
Edited on Sun Apr-29-07 02:23 PM by fedsron2us
It appears privilege extends even to kidnapping and assassination.

Nice to know that Mahdi army and the other jihadists have bought into the British class system so completely.

What a bunch of snobs !

18. Head of Army: Prince Harry will be sent to Iraq
Prince Harry will be deployed to Iraq with his regiment, the head of the British army has said.

General Sir Richard Dannatt said he had taken the decision personally but stressed it would be kept under review.

He called for an end to the "somewhat frenzied media speculation around this issue..in the interests of all our people deployed in Iraq at this time".

There have been fears for the safety of the prince in Iraq amid apparently worsening tensions in the country.

That migth leave open the option of a 'desk job' in Iraq, I suppose.
