Retired Gen.: Bush should sign Iraq bill

President Bush should sign legislation starting the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq on Oct. 1, retired Army Lt. Gen. William Odom said Saturday.

"I hope the president seizes this moment for a basic change in course and signs the bill Congress has sent him," Odom said, delivering the Democrats' weekly radio address.

Odom, an outspoken critic of the war who served as the Army's top intelligence officer and headed the National Security Agency during the Reagan administration, delivered the address at the request of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. He said he has never been a Democrat or a Republican.

The general accused Bush of squandering U.S. lives and helping Iran and al-Qaida when he invaded Iraq.

"The challenge we face today is not how to win in Iraq; it is how to recover from a strategic mistake: invading Iraq in the first place," he said. "The president has let (the Iraq war) proceed on automatic pilot, making no corrections in the face of accumulating evidence that his strategy is failing and cannot be rescued. He lets the United States fly further and further into trouble, squandering its influence, money and blood, facilitating the gains of our enemies."

4. Too bad Lt. Gen. William Odom is not a "Commander in the field", since that's all they listen to.
His insight will carry no weight wtih Bush & Co.

16. Ding! Ding! Ding!
They listen to the Military-Industrial-Complex and Big-Oil CEOs who never can get enough hundreds of millions to deposit in their tax-free off-shore bank accounts.

In short, they listen to the haves and the have-mores and it's really easy to prove it. In fact, it's one of the 0.01 percent of the time the AWOL liar ever said the http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/truth (he never thought the clip would show up in Fahrenheit 9/11).

Anyone who truly believes they really listen to therr yesmen-yeswomen hasn't got it yet.

7. Thank you LTG Odom. Somebody needs to stick up for our soldiers.
Our troops are stuck in a hopeless quagmire because of the Bush mafia war profiteers.

THANK YOU for truly supporting our troops!

by Odom....but the more people who speak out, especially the military people, the more the American people will get the picture. Just like lies, if the truth is reported repeatedly,it will become mainstream.

12. These Generals need
to call their Congressmen/women and Senators of their state. They need to do some grassroots action as well as give interviews.

15. OK, now where are the other Generals?
I believe there are about 20 of them (maybe even more) who spoke up about 6 months ago. This was regarding the Old Charmer Don Rumsfailed.

They got out there, and they spoke up, probably more out of panic & desperation at what Rumsfailed was doing to the military. It's unprecedented that they did this, because Generals get nice cushy jobs in their retirement, and they went out on a limb to do it.

If they could come out in force, it would be ANOTHER amazing event.
