Convention ends with Satan and immigrants
Source: The Daily Herald

<snip>

Don Larsen, chairman of legislative District 65 for the Utah County Republican Party, had submitted a resolution warning that Satan's minions want to eliminate national borders and do away with sovereignty.

In a speech at the convention, Larsen told those gathered that illegal immigrants "hate American people" and "are determined to destroy this country, and there is nothing they won't do." Illegal aliens are in control of the media, and working in tandem with Democrats, are trying to "destroy Christian America" and replace it with "a godless new world order -- and that is not extremism, that is fact," Larsen said.

. . .

Senator Howard Stephenson, R-Draper, spoke against the resolution, saying Larsen, whom he called a "true patriot and a close friend," was embarrassing the Republican Party. "I agree with 95 percent of this resolution but it has some language that is divisive and not inspiring other people to its vision," he said. "This only gives fodder to the liberal media to give negative attention to the Republican Party."

. . .

Greene said she was disappointed in BYU professors who protested Dick Cheney's visit to campus, calling them "self-appointed intellectuals." "I'm not calling for BYU to fire them but if no one signs up for their classes ..." she said. "If they say the Vice President doesn't have anything to say we want to hear, I'm not interested in having my daughter learn from them."

. . .

All of the speakers praised those gathered. Lt. Governor Gary Herbert said Utah County Republicans are "guided by correct principles" and are the "best of the best" of the Republican Party.

Congressman Chris Cannon and Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff both received a standing ovation from some members of the audience. Cannon said Democrats have just as many corrupt party members as the Republicans but the media does not report Democratic ethics violations.

Scary stuff for an official GOP meeting.

One of the items which should be highlighted is that the Utah USA Mark Shurtleff attended the Republican meeting in his official capacity as a USA. Now that is a Hatch Act violation if I ever saw one.

7. An Attorney General for the state of Utah should be attending GOP staff meetings?
Meetings where they take votes on GOP party platforms?

The Attorney General for the state of Utah should stand on stage side by side with the head of state GOP politics at a GOP meeting?

11. Yes.
It's an elected post. This is not unusual, and it happens with both parties all across the country.

12. Whether State Attorney General (state office) or United States Attorney (federal office)
It is legal to take part as long as state or federal property is not used. And as long as they are not being paid performing their elected or appointed government position.

There may be other restrictions but that is the gist of the Hatch Act and the Little Hatch Act if Utah has one.

8. "Democrats have just as many corrupt party members as the Republicans"
Almost funny. These jokers still don't realize that the Republican Congress ushered in one of the most corrupt periods in the history of US government, and it hit turbo mode when Bush was appointed in 2000.

This cluelessness begins to explain why Utah remains one of only two states with 50+% approval of Bush (as of last November).

13. Utah Co. GOP kills resolution on Satan
Source: Salt Lake Tribune

OREM - The Utah County Republican Party on Saturday killed a controversial resolution asserting Satan's role in illegal immigration and supporting the closure of U.S. borders.
The move was due not necessarily to lack of support, but because the convention lacked a full quorum. Seventy percent of the attending 471 delegates, or 334, had to be present in order for a vote to take place.
By the time the resolution came up for debate, many of the delegates had gone home.
The group held a 10-minute debate on the issue, which district Chairman Don Larsen, author of the resolution, described as a behind-the-scenes war being waged on America by big businesses and left-wing extremists.
"They're trying to destroy Christian America and install godless order," Larsen said. "We need to close our national borders and protect the United States from destruction by self-invasion."
Delegate Joe Ferguson agreed, saying undocumented immigrants will never assimilate into American culture.
"The devil is involved," Ferguson said. "Marxism is the devil and freedom is in Christ."

22. I find it despicable when groups say they are the best of something based on nothing
Just as I find it despicable that Hoosiers consider Hoosier values the best.

One problem with that is that not all Indiana residents are born and bred Hoosiers. Another is that not all residents want to be considered Hoosiers. Another is that I don't consider Hoosier values to be the best in the nation or midwest or whatever.

24. Considering that Indiana leads the nation in job losses
- and like Ohio, is leaving devastated communities in the wake of far right trade & fiscal policies (not to mention being one of the more active Klan states) I reckon Hoosier values aren't something reasonable people should be bragging about....

26. Wow.
I knew that the godless liberals, the Jews, and the wicked scientists all control the media (together?) but I'd never heard before that the illegal immigrants did. Interesting idea!

Are the Utah Republican leaders even more insane than those elsewhere, or was this the Convention of the Nuttiest? One thing that it could not be called is a meeting of minds!

"If they say the Vice President doesn't have anything to say we want to hear, I'm not interested in having my daughter learn from them."

So Cheney-worship is the criterion of a good university course? I suspect that the lecturers might be rather relieved at NOT having to teach students who have been so brainwashed - on the other hand, it would do the youngsters some good to get exposed to a different point of view occasionally.

27. The problem with groups like this is that they focus on national issues
and ignore local ones.

What good does it do to protect the United States from the Satanic illegal immigrant horde if all the municipal zoning boards are still held tightly in the fist of the Dark Lord Baal?
