Truck bomb kills four in Iraq's Arbil

ARBIL, Iraq (Reuters) - A truck bomb killed four people and
wounded three in the northern Iraqi city of Arbil on Wednesday,
one of the few bomb attacks in the relatively peaceful Kurdish
region since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

The blast went off in central Arbil, capital of Kurdistan, near
the Kurdish government's interior ministry, a Reuters reporter
at the scene said. Police said the toll could rise.

At least five cars were damaged in the blast at around 8 a.m.
The explosion blew off windows and caused partial damage to
some buildings.

Car bombs are extremely rare in Iraq's autonomous Kurdish
region, which has been spared the violence engulfing the rest
of Iraq. Arbil is the capital of Kurdistan.

stable through all of this...how soon before the Turkish military decides to go after the PKK inside Iraqi Kurdistan, just to add more balls to juggle in this whole disastrous mess?

BAGHDAD - A suicide truck bomb blamed on al-Qaida linked insurgents exploded Wednesday outside the Interior Ministry in the Kurdish city of Irbil, killing at least 15 people and wounding 65, security and hospital officials said.

Kurdish television showed footage of the badly damaged Interior Ministry building. Rubble lay in piles and long metal beams were twisted. Rescue workers reached into the wreckage to pull out one of the victims of the blast.

Windows were blown out down the street and wreckage was scattered nearly 100 yards away.

The blast also damaged the nearby security headquarters. Hamza Ahmed, a spokesman for the Irbil governor's office, said the dead and wounded included police and civilians.

BAGHDAD - A suicide truck bomb ripped through the Interior Ministry in the relatively peaceful Kurdish city of Irbil on Wednesday morning, killing at least 19 people and wounding 80, officials said.

Kurdish officials blamed al-Qaida linked insurgents for the devastating attack.

The bombing came just as Vice President Dick Cheney arrived in Baghdad for an unannounced visit that was to include meetings with top Iraqi government officials, leaders of influential Iraqi factions and the senior U.S. military commander here.

Cheney's visit was aimed at encouraging rival Iraqi factions to work together to overcome their divisions to work together to end the conflict.
