CIA Leak Case Back In Court
Source: AP

The legal fallout from the 2003 CIA leak scandal continues as lawyers seek dismissal of a lawsuit against members of the Bush administration.

Former CIA operative Valerie Plame contends the administration violated her constitutional rights by leaking her identity to reporters in 2003. She is demanding compensation from Vice President Dick Cheney; one of his former aides, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby; White House political adviser Karl Rove; and former State Department Deputy Secretary Richard Armitage.

Their lawyers were scheduled to argue Thursday that a judge should throw out the case.

Plame's lawyers say the case could reveal more about the inner workings of the Bush White House than surfaced during Libby's monthlong perjury trial, but Thursday's arguments were to focus on technical matters of law.

Plame and her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, say the administration violated their free speech, due process and privacy rights.

2. Filed in DC District Court
I wonder who will be the Judge? I don't imagine they would have Reggie Walton this time. Anybody know about the Judges in the DC District Court?

3. Judge John Bates...loyal Bushie
This case is a political exercise masquerading as a civil lawsuit," Mr. Armitage's lawyers complained in their motion to dismiss the case. Judge John Bates is scheduled to hear two hours of arguments today on whether the suit should go forward. The federal government, which was not named as a defendant, has also urged that the case be thrown out.

5. Stupid talking head on CNN now points to the magazine pics...
...of Wilson and Plame, taken long after the scandal broke, and asks how they can claim invasion of privacy? His co-host timidly pointed out the hole in that logic, but they quickly moved on.

Stupid, evil CNN.

7. CIA leak destroyed Plame's career, her lawyer says
By James Vicini

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Bush administration officials destroyed Valerie Plame's career by disclosing her identity as a secret CIA operative, a lawyer for Plame and her husband said on Thursday in urging a federal judge to rule that their lawsuit can go forward.

"In the end, it's about egregious conduct by the defendants that ruined a woman's career," Duke University law professor Erwin Chemerinsky said as Plame sat silently in the courtroom. ~snip~
