A former South Dakota legislator has been arrested. Republican Ted Klaudt faces several charges including stalking and second degree rape.

Klaudt is charged with eight counts of second degree rape, two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of sexual contact with a child under 16, two counts of tampering with a witness, and one count of stalking.

1) We desperately need sex education in this country so that any time a man approaches a girl with talk of "stimulating the vagina so he can examine her eggs", big huge alarm bells go off... I don't blame the girl for being "not too bright", she's just a victim of the SD education and foster care system who not only never learned how her own body operates, but thought of herself as weak and dumb and felt she needed to trust her foster father... after all, he's a powerful man and can be trusted, right? :puke:

In StuporMax? For something like this? I have no problem with that. If one is convicted, after a fair trial and by the preponderance of evidence, of such a crime, then one has forfeited one's right to live in decent society.

On the second point: Of course you would, Thomas. ;-) On the other hand, I think incarceration, in a supermax kind of circumstance, would give such a person a long time to reflect on the error of one's ways. Kind of like a Tibetan Hermitage, only with worse food. That said, I can fully understand the visceral reaction.

More than anything, I really feel for the kid. After what she had been through, up to the point of the foster care, she was already damaged. Now, she is gonna be a real wreck. It's gonna be nearly impossible to turn her head around.

I read the affidavit and I am so sorry for the harm to the children. Those poor girls deserved so much better from the foster care system. Does SD not have oversight of the people they place with? What an indictment on the SD department of human services, if they even have one ... we are talking about a low tax republican state that needs to borrow snow plows from Iowa to clean their own damn highways.

PIERRE - Former Republican Rep. Ted Klaudt could spend the rest of his life in prison after turning himself in to authorities Friday on felony charges that include eight counts of rape involving foster children and former legislative pages.

Five girls told authorities they were assaulted by Klaudt, court documents state, although charges filed Friday involve only two of the girls.

Four of the girls said they were accosted in Klaudt's hotel room in Pierre, where he stayed while serving in the South Dakota Legislature. Two of the girls were legislative pages when they were attacked, they told investigators.

He's accused of performing "ovary checks" and "breast exams" under the guise that he was helping young women donate their reproductive eggs, according to court records.
