Iraq Draws Up Plans if U.S. Forces Leave
By QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA
Associated Press Writer

May 21, 2007, 2:03 PM EDT

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Iraq's military is drawing up plans on how to cope
if U.S.-led forces leave the country quickly, the defense minister
said Monday.

The statement by Defense Minister Abdul-Qader al-Obeidi marked
the first time a senior Iraqi official has spoken publicly about the
possibility of a quick end to the U.S.-led mission.

It was unclear if the remarks were more than routine contingency
planning.

"The army plans on the basis of a worst-case scenario so as not to
allow any security vacuum," al-Obeidi said. "There are meetings
with political leaders on how we can deal with a sudden pullout."

3. Maybe they saw the headlines of more US forces killed?
I sort of hate to read these every day. Bush's nice little war runs on. It is endless.

6. I suspect a lot of the current government will "bug out"
I doubt that they will be safe, without the U.S. military.

10. Quite correct. US forces are all that protect the quisling government
from lampposts in Baghdad.

7. * "Incident" in the straits of Hormuz.
  • Withdraw to permanent military bases and Embassy in Iraq.
  • Bomb shit out of Iran.
  • Leave behind caretaker garrisons in Iraq.
  • Occupy Iranian oil fields. Maintaining a safe corridor through the Iraqi fields along the way of course.
  • Both nations, now mostly desert with no source of revenue, will have to come cap in hand to the US. (According to what passes for PNAC logic.)

8. We need to leave when things get under control
If they dont we will be forced to go back.

I want the troops home, but their hard work and sacrifice cannot be forgotten.
