Pelosi: Bush's Iraq policy beginning to 'unravel'
Source: CNN/AP

WASHINGTON (AP) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Friday the Iraq spending bill is a disappointment because it does not end the war, but that it's only a matter of time before Democrats get their way.

"I think the president's policy is going to begin to unravel now," said Pelosi, D-California.

snip...

Democrats say the fight is far from over.

"We're going to keep coming back and coming back," said Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, chairman of the Democratic caucus.

Rahm Emanuel and his DLC ilk can KISS MY LIBERAL ASS. It's high time for a third party now. I used to believe in the Democratic Party, but yesterday's capitulation to the dictator-in-chief makes me ashamed to even be associated with such a band of COWARDS.

ENOUGH. No more bullsh*t excuses will cover the travesty perpetrated upon the party faithful.

19. DCCC bullshit spin
I can't believe the way the dems are spinning this vote. Checkout this bullshit email I got from the DCCC.

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

Breaking News: Because of your help, the House just passed legislation that will go to the White House that includes critical issues Democrats have been fighting for including: canceling the President's blank check in Iraq, raising the minimum wage, and increased funding for military health care and veterans' benefits, and help for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Dear Flyfish,

THEN:
Two weeks ago, President Bush vetoed our legislation to demand accountability in Iraq and declared he would only sign a bill without any accountability for his management of the war.

NOW:
Now, the President has agreed to accountability and reporting provisions. That means for the first time we can force the President to be held accountable for his endless war in Iraq. We canceled the President's blank check in Iraq.

Why the sudden change? It's because of you that we have taken this first important step. You stood with us here at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) every step of the way. You signed petitions against the President's failed policies, spoke out on the need to change course in Iraq, and wrote letters-to-the-editors in support of the issues Americans care about.

As the President's resistance shows, there is no quick and easy way to end this war.

As Speaker Pelosi said today about the vote, "This debate will go on." Democrats believe ending this war is a step-by-step process and today marks a significant step in this direction.

I will need your help again to take the next step in our fight to end this war. Tomorrow, Democrats in the House will announce a new plan to bring legislation forward that includes timetables.

They will need your help to make this a reality. Together, we have come this far and I know together we can do even more. It will take both sides working together to truly bring this war to a successful and responsible end. That's why I need you to do even more to speak out and voice your support. You can do so at our DCCC Iraq Resource Center.

Today marks a new beginning for America. We took a step forward together as a nation - away from the failures of the President's policies and toward a more hopeful time. Democrats are committed to redeploying our troops and ending the war in Iraq once and for all. Our commitment will never change and our dedication will never stop.

I hope I can count on your continued support.

Sincerely,

Brian Wolff
Executive Director

P.S. –The fight to end the war in Iraq is far from over. With your continued help, we will keep up the pressure on the President to listen to the advice of his commanders and the will of the American people. But we will only succeed if we move forward together. Please visit the DCCC's Iraq Resource Center and get involved in the fight today.

46. I Also Received This...

"Letter" by Email and you can be sure that I replied with a reality check. These manipulative fools have gone too far this time!

I can not believe how dumb these wanna-be repubulithugs must think that we all are to be suckered with this facile, lying propaganda. They obviously are sure that most of us are easily confused "kool-aid" quaffers too!

Long time Democrats are appalled at all of these continuing capitulations. They/we/I are/am losing hope and any willingness to continue to participate in most Democratic candidates campaigns. As long as the Demos marginalize real patriots like Kucinich and Gravel they are doomed to be also-rans. They are saying that since there are no viable alternatives you ahve to be with us. This is the reason that they go to any length to demonize all attempts to start another political party. The Green Party has been sabotaged consistantly with lies and stupid propaganda, sadly effective enough that it often even seduces many people who should know better. Perhaps they are getting their eyes and minds opened now...

The DCCC is a sad, sad example of what is so wrong with the "two 'party' system". There really isn't a well supported Democratic alternative now to the criminal behavior at the core of our current foreign and domestic policies.

It certainly explains why half of the electorate doesn't even bother to register to vote and half of those who do register have better things to do on election day than to take a few minutes to cast their ballot or to vote absentee. Why waste their time if nobody likely to win actually represents them. Why indeed!

27. No, she has to play politics
People here expect too much from Pelosi when she is trying her best to end the war. The Democrats have the majority but not the super majority so Bush still has political power to veto bills.

Her and the Dems are limited what they can do at the moment.

25. Beginning? sigh. and there in a nut shell is why the bill passed.
I have been thinking of taking a, what I like to call, scheduled pause from DU. I get information overload from time to time and this is one of them.

This is comment by Pelosi is systemic of the democratic leadership in congress. They are completely out of touch if they think that only NOW morons* plan is unraveling.

Aside from the first bombed dropped on Baghdad as being the sign of the unraveling, a better indicator was the leveling of Feluja (sp). If someone didn't get a call on the clue phone by that point, they were living in a cave.

I need a break. This kind of colossal disconnect as displayed by Pelosi makes me ill, sad, frustrated, pissed off, filled with angst and generally perturbed at the state of our nation and the slope it is sliding down at an accelerated rate.

This announcement is right up there with the jokes that pop up on here from time to time, pointing out the obvious, such as, "water is wet!". But frankly, this is more like the dimwitted fool who only woke up to the fact that darth vader was Luke's farther 25 years after it was stated.

My brain hurts, it also cries, actually crying is more of a momentary out burst born of a moment of frustration, what's happening now is more along the lines of, my soul is weeping. It's tired, it's disillusioned, it wants to rest it's head down for just a moment and collect itself, it wants that happy thought that world isn't pissed off at us and we are again the beacon of freedom. Alas, that isn't happening.

I'm experiencing overload over the depth of corruption in our government and the Dems who have the majority aren't holding these crooks* feet to the fire. They are still playing nice. And as long as they play nice, the repukes will continue to exploit that. And in the end, the soldiers will be thrown under the bus while the bosses write their memoirs from their palatial retreats.

I hear the words of my father echo in my head. "they are all the same. the two party system will be the death of this nation".

sadly, after being a life long democrat, I think I may have to agree.

His threat to switch parties would give the GOP the Senate with Cheney casting any needed tie-breaking vote. The Dems could retalliate by not letting anything get out of the House--if they stand united long enough...

Take Hillary's criticism of Bush. It is never about the war, it is always about its management. They all go to AIPAC and spew the same neoliberal crap, which is indistinguishable from neocon crap, and say all that shit about "freedom and democracy" in Iraq, and doing the same in Iran and Syria, and they babble about protecting the oil and Israel.
