NFL's Marquise Hill found dead
Source: By The Associated Press

New Orleans - CNN is reporting that New England Patriots player Marquise Hill's body was found in Lake Ponchartrain, where U.S. Coast Guard crews had been searching for him since his disappearance Sunday night.

Hill played on LSU's national championship team and was a second-round draft pick by New England in 2004.

"We are all shocked," Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in a statement, released before Hill's body was found. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Marquise and his family.

The woman, whose identity was not available Monday morning, was rescued and sent to Tulane Medical Center where she told them Hill had tried to keep her calm as the two were drifting away from each other. Neither Hill nor the woman wore a life preserver, authorities said.

1. A jet-skiing accident
Edited on Mon May-28-07 04:48 PM by rocknation
The body was discovered about a quarter-mile from where Hill and a female companion were involved in the accident...

Hill's agent...had been told Hill and a young woman were jetskiing Sunday in the lake when both of them went into the water, which had a strong current...the woman was able to make it to a pylon and hang on until she was rescued...Neither Hill nor the woman wore a life preserver...

And Jon Corzine wasn't wearing a seat belt. When will they ever learn?

2. A lesson can be learned here:
I used to own a boat, back before The Bush Economic Miracle did a number on such fripperies as boats, cars and eating more than one meal a day. Of course, me being me, I tried to learn as much as I could about operating that boat safely. One thing that people should never do is go out on any small watercraft without a personal flotation device, and one that is not only rated for someone of their weight, but one that will positively keep their head above water and allow breathing, should they become unconscious. These are the types that tend to roll you over onto your back.

I went into some cold water once, while wearing my vest. I was very glad I had it on.

3. Nobody can swim while they are unconscious
That's what our water safety instructors used to tell us ALL the time.

"I don't care how good a swimmer you are. You wear your life-jacket. Nobody can swim when they're unconscious."
