Army misses recruiting goal in May
Mon Jun 11, 2007 11:53AM EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Army missed its recruiting
goal in May for the first time this year but said on Monday
the shortfall was not the start of a downward trend.

The active-duty Army, severely strained by wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan, recruited 5,101 new soldiers last month, short
of its 5,500 goal for May.

All other branches of the active-duty U.S. armed forces met
or exceeded monthly goals. The Marine Corps, which too has
been stressed by overseas operations, exceeded its goal by
34 percent.

Army spokesman Paul Boyce said the Army would meet its
annual recruiting goal despite May's shortfall. The Army is
2,000 recruits above plan for this point in the year, he said.

2. Does anyone have info on how this year's recruiting goals for the Army and USMC
compare to last years? I'm curious to know if meeting these goals is a result of drastically lowering them. I suspect I already know the answer.

4. Not a problem
they'll revise the goal to 5,000 for the following month, and report another glowing success.

6. Time to raise the recruitment age and add more sign on bonuses
There are still desperate enough people out there if they just can tap the right demographic.

Hey, maybe they can do a promotion where they'll change your ARM to a decent fixed rate mortgage w/no closing cost if you join up? That might bring in a few more warm bodies.

9. How the hell do they know that it's "not the start of a downward trend"?

There's no trend yet to measure.

Pathetic.

12. Recruitment Goals are the only target our military can't hit anymore.
Show us a guy on a motorcycle driving at a hundred and thirty miles an hour, (at night, in the rain) and we'll send an unmanned drone to take him out with a single missile.

Show us a number in an Excell spreadsheet and say, "Convince THIS many people to put their lives in the hands of Commander Cuckoobananas... "Computer says NOooOOoooooow..."
