Indonesia bans import of food, cosmetics, medicine from China
Source: Zee News India

Jakarta, July 30: Indonesia has banned the import of food supplements, cosmetics and medicine from China which are reported to be posing health hazards.

The ban, which came into effect early this month, followed findings that the medicines contained chemical substances while the cosmetics were mixed with mercury and rhodamin and its food products were mixed with formalin which were dangerous to health.

"The ban will only be lifted after the authorities had inspected them," Indonesian Medicine and Food Control Organisation (BPOM) chief Husniah Rubiana Thamrin Akib said.

He said the ban was also imposed by other countries, which found these products as hazardous substances.

BPOM was also carrying out inspections on all goods from China to check the contaminated products. Meanwhile, the head of the National Medicinal Analysis and Food Centre, Siam Subagyo said 79 food items from China were checked recently and the results would be known next week.

Among the products were seven types of chewing gum, plum sweets, and three types of toothpaste which contained chemicals for use as a freezer in refrigerators and lubricating oil. Husniah said there was a possibility that the items were dumped here after the Chinese government had banned them.

Good for Indonesia. Maybe the US should follow their example.

4. I wish we would ban their crap here in the U.S.
I am now watching labels like crazy for the past month or so after I bought some really delicious tilapia from Gordon Foods and noticed after we ate it that it came from China. Then I noticed some "fresh" garlic that I bought in a little bag with three bunches in it had a "Made in China" label. I thought garlic would come from Italy or Greece or something but I was wrong. After the pet food scare I watch everything now. It is such bullshit to say that the products are cheaper for us. I have not noticed my grocery bill going down with the import of more Chinese products. Everything is cheaper for the big corporation that buys from China and marks up the prices for us to make huge profits. I am sick of it. They are endangering our families.

7. Ah, the free market is correcting itself. On the corpses of its victims.
The pile of slaughtered has now been deemed sufficiently high.

8. See, you get to keep your balls when you don't sell your country to your supplier
Sure would be nice to still have ours.

China has them in a jar on their desk.

We couldn't do ANYTHING substantive even if we wanted to. They will continue to buy our debt with our money and will continue to poison us with their goods of dubious quality.
