American Found Dead in Oman, Police Investigating

MUSCAT (Reuters) - Police in Oman said Thursday they were investigating the death of an American whose body was found Wednesday.
Two Westerners have been shot in mysterious circumstances in the past two months in the pro-Western Gulf Arab state.

It was not immediately clear if the latest death was linked in any way but a police spokesman told the official news agency ONA the circumstances of the U.S. citizen's death were being investigated. He gave no further details.

A U.S. diplomat said the report was being investigated.

A German tourist was shot to death in Muscat in early December, in what diplomats said was the second mysterious shooting of a Westerner in about a month.
