Schwarzenegger to Swing Big Ax on Budget
By TOM CHORNEAU, Associated Press Writer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Saddled with a shortfall of at least $14 billion and a promise not to raise taxes, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) is likely to release a budget next week with few surprises — it will contain cuts, cuts and more cuts.

While the administration has released no details of the 2004-2005 spending plan, lawmakers and lobbyists engaged in budget negotiations with the governor say they expect to see a painful list of spending reductions that reach every corner of the state bureaucracy.

Topping the list will likely be public health and welfare programs — especially Medi-Cal, the state's health insurance for the poor and disabled that costs more than $10 billion a year.

Education is also expected to share the burden, despite...

I'm guessing the lower and middle class will take 99% of the hit of these cuts. Arnold will truly be the Terminator of many lives and families. God damn him to hell.

1. "God damn him to hell"
took the words right out of my mouth

:grr:

"Topping the list will likely be public health and welfare..."

how can ANY thinking/feeling human being plan a budget like this? How much will this fucking Nazi golem cut from subsidies to polluting industries? How much will the asshole demand from the Enron lawsuits?

Arnold better keep his ass locked indoors 24/7, I have a feeling angry mobs, pitchforks, and torches are going to become more and more popular around here...

3. Is this what the people of California need to see?
Edited on Thu Jan-01-04 04:21 PM by 0rganism
Face it, Ahnold won because the people didn't value the services provided by their state government. Maybe living without those services until the next election will renew interest in progressive taxation. Not like there's much of a choice, now, anyway.

4. damn the Gropenazi to hell is right!
<<He is likely to renew his pledge to get a bigger share of Indian gambling profits, and his call for new concessions from labor unions. And there are hints of reforms and reorganizations aimed at making the state more efficient and cost conscious — including changes in parole and inmate supervision.

The new governor's finance director, Donna Arduin, is known for cutting billions in social services in Florida as budget director for Gov. Jeb Bush. >>

The Gropenator won't have much luck trying to move in on the Indian gaming due to their FEDERAL rights as sovereign nations, but the second paragraph re: Donna Arduin (Jeb's old shill b*tch) is a bit of a surprise to me, but not really. What else can we expect from the BFEE?????

GOD DAMN you Ahnuld to hell is right!

No more health care for the poor and disabled. What a "compassionate" conservanator!!!!

5. Don't Blame Arnold
Blame the idiots that voted for him. Too many Americans want tax cuts AND government services, and you can't have both. Arnold would have never won if Democrats didn't vote for him, and I recall many Democrats on this board slamming Davis left and right. Well, you get what you vote for.

10. There's a lot of blame to go around, including my own sister.
She's a Dem, voted FOR the recall because she hates Davis, and for Arianna. Thanks, sis.

15. The idiots who voted for him were star-struck males
possibly with sexual identity issues. As well as the hard core right wing counties...and there are MANY in our state. I'm proud to say that my area SF - voted 5-1 against him. Not all CA's are idiots, in fact the numbers are low comparatively. What state is it that gives the dem's 20% +/- of the electoral vote in presidential races.....the gropenator will not be able to stop that!!!

18. proud here too
:toast:

I met one, ONE, person in the bay area who even came close to supporting Arnold, and that was an apolitical person who just thought it would be funny to hear him talking all the time

:eyes:

fortunately that person was too apolitical to even vote.

without exception, every other bay area person I know did the right thing

25. Exactly

It was so stupid. I hate the opportunists who urged people to vote yes on the recall.

Yeah, when your state is in a fiscal crisis, put some one in office who doesn't have a clue, that makes sense...

For lack of utilizing common sense....voting on a name without a track record and getting sucked in by right-wing media hype.....

I hope the lesson learned is short lived. I sense it will be a painful and memorable one too.

All were aware that the right wing funded, promopted and planned the Recall.....It was an easy scam.

12. I may be one directly effected...
Due to preexisting medical conditions, anything but catastrophic health insurance is impossible for me at this time.

The past year, due to a health crisis, I was forced into the Medi-Cal system. Thank the gods it was there for me; it has been a true lifesaver.

Since Arnie was elected I have been living in fear of what he would do. It will be a small disaster for me when the cuts I know are coming hit.

I have always been one who was fully willing to pay a reasonable amount of extra taxes to help pay for the things that I find important as a citizen -- the environment, the poor, schools, improvements to cultural institutions.

And I am perfectly willing to pay them now. But Arnie would rather I essentially rot in hell.

Thanks loads.

14. Just look
at Massachusetts. We have a governor who is just to pretty to be real. He cut just about every social program he could. I think the Legs when they come back will change things I hope. Cut out the Rape Crises Center. I asked my rep and he said that something had to be cut. I suggested that their pays be cut first. He had a fit.

you just said the wisest thing on the subject of budget-trimming that I have ever heard in all my 36 years on this planet

Will the Cali politicians still have THEIR health-care??? You know, the one they could easily afford on their salaries if they had to pay for it themselves?

I :toast: your wisdom!

19. How many people voted against Arnold?
What if they all paid just 10% more in tax to the State? Would it be enough to bail them out?

Thinks of the positive press they would get for putting their money where their votes were. I know I would be happy to pay 10% extra along with Democratic peers to make a statement and help the needy. How about it?

20. How many plan to vote against the 15 billion dollar loan
that Arnie is proposing in March? I live in LA and voted against the recall, so luckily SF isn't the only place where sanity dwells. I would love to see ahnold recalled but find that possibility remote considering all the positive press he continues to receive. So, how many plan to vote against the 15 billion dollar loan?
